Dave Grohl speaks out on fathering child after cheating on his wife

Dave Grohl’s infidelity scandal rocked the music world, where the ‘nicest man in rock’ faced a brand disaster like no other – hurting his family, and shaking up his fans.

But a year on, the former Nirvana drummer spoke out about the impact of his cheating, and his current situation.

“I’ve been in therapy six days a week for 70 weeks,” Grohl said to The Guardian in an interview published on 20 March. “I did the math the other day: over 430 sessions.”

Calculating the weeks, it puts his first sessions somewhere around the time the musician revealed to the world how he had stepped out on his marriage to second wife, Jordyn Blum.

Grohl married Blum in 2003, and they had three daughters together, Violet, 19, Harper, born in 2009, and Ophelia, born in 2014.

But in September 2024, he had another confession to make, which came as a shock to all.

“I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside my marriage,” he posted on social media. “I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her. I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness.”

The woman in question was allegedly named Jennifer Young, a horror movie producer from Florida, who revealed her identity to The New York Post last year.

However, Grohl hasn’t confirmed any further details in regards to his child and child’s mother.

But he has shared the toll recent times have had on him, such as the death of his mother, and drummer, Taylor Hawkins.

Speaking in his interview, Grohl revealed that his therapy came after a culmination of tragedies, stating: “There were so many things that led me to this therapy.”

Later, he revealed: “I have to be perfectly honest. Writing songs and writing lyrics about these things is sometimes enough. As far as having a deeper, longer conversation about them, I still do reserve a lot of this for my own personal life, as impersonal and public as it may seem. But I think that for many reasons, I wound up in a place that I needed to stop and sit with myself and re-evaluate myself. It’s an ongoing process.”

Explaining what it was like to put his life out there for public judgement, he said he 'had to turn everything off’, which included his ‘concern for what other people think’.

The Foo Fighters frontman continued: “Being able to shut off that part of yourself can be sometimes a very healthy exercise in considering life within your immediate radius. Not giving all of that so much currency within yourself that it can completely destroy yourself.”

When he mentioned his tendency to ‘overexert’ himself later in the interview and was asked if this was the cause of him cheating on his wife, he revealed that it wasn’t the reason, but explained: “No. I think that’s how I ended up overextending myself and getting lost. I wasn’t sitting with myself and really letting [feelings] go from my head into my heart. Getting to the point where I was just like, I need to stop, turn everything off and find my heart.”

As for how it impacted his family, after his public announcement, Harper deactivated her social media accounts before returning some months later.

However, she later went on stage to sing with her father.
