The age of streaming gives everyone an opportunity to watch films that we may not have gone to see in the cinema or bought the DVD for 10-15 years ago.

Thousands of films are at the fingertips of subscribers, and if you go through all your favourites, you'll often find yourself venturing into different avenues and finding a newfound appreciation for certain series or movies.

It looks like this has happened with a particular Ryan Reynolds film, which has been praised by fans recently, five years after its release.

The film was released on Netflix in 2019.

The action thriller film was directed by the one and only Michael Bay on a budget of $150 million (£119 million), a record for a Netflix original at the time.

It follows billionaire Magnet S.Johnson (Reynolds), who fakes his own death and forms an anonymous squad after witnessing the disturbing truths of a brutal regime in a fictional Central Asian country.

He recruits five other members from around the world, who are experts in what they do, to fake their deaths and form the vigilante group.

Included in the group is a spy, a hitman, a parkour runner and thief, a doctor and a driver.

Known as 'ghosts', they attempt to take down a dictatorship regime.

The film is called 6 Underground and you can watch the trailer below:

It was released in December 2019 on Netflix to mixed reviews, being given an average score of 36 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Critics praised Reynolds' performance, but criticised the plot and lack of creativity with the storyline.

But fans highly rated the movie on social media, praising the action scenes - though some felt as though the film had unfulfilled potential despite liking it overall.

6 Underground was slated for a sequel, but due to its polarising reviews, the studio cancelled plans in 2021.

Netflix's film chief Scott Stuber explained: "We didn't feel like we got there on [the film] creatively. It was a nice hit, but at the end of the day we didn't feel like we nailed the mark to justify coming back again.

"There just wasn't that deep love for those characters or that world."

But this hasn't stopped fans from showing their appreciation, as numerous fans of 6 Underground took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their thoughts.

6 Underground featured an ensemble cast.

One user commented: "6 underground remains one of the best Reynolds movie I've watched."

Another said: "Underground. Action movie fans, here is a gem from Ryan Reynolds. A 10/10."

A third posted: "I know I’m late to the party but 6 Underground was so goooooodddd"

A fourth user wrote: "Deep down I am still waiting for the sequels of the old guard and 6 underground".
