Eddie Murphy’s name has been trending after a new Netflix documentary covered the comic's life story, however many will not realise his connection to Spice Girl Mel B.
The Netflix documentary features a number of famous celebrities talking about Murphy’s life, but leaves out some of the star's more controversial moments.
This includes his relationship with Mel B, which was short but shocking to fans who would never have expected the pairing.
Murphy’s documentary, titled Being Eddie, predominantly follows the 64-year-old's rise to fame and family life, with him saying that his ten children are the ‘centre of everything’.

The Netflix doc has been criticised in some reviews, with The Guardian claiming it is ‘missing depth’, and The Hollywood Reporter saying that its DNA does not ‘include an iota of journalism’, adding: “Does Being Eddie give the impression that Eddie Murphy is revealing a single thing that he hadn’t decided in advance that he would reveal? Heck no.”
Despite this, his relationship with Mel B being left out of the documentary should come as a surprise due to the fact that the pair share a son.
She described experiencing ‘love at first sight’ when they met at an intimate dinner party in 2008.
Speaking in her 2018 memoir, Brutally Honest, Mel B said: “It was as if a 2,000-volt electric current had passed between us, I felt a hundred different emotions at once.
“I felt I had known this man all my life and that I was staring at my destiny in his face.”

After dating for just a few months, Murphy got a tattoo of her name on his leg and asked her dad for his permission to marry her. Shortly after this, Mel B became pregnant, however Murphy publicly questioned if he was the father.
When asked about the child, he said: “I don’t know whose child that is until it comes out and has a blood test. You shouldn’t jump to conclusions, sir.”
Just two months later, Murphy had a DNA test that confirmed he was the dad.
The pair broke up after the singer returned to Leeds to give birth to the child, having stated she hoped he would follow her.
Mel B spoke about their relationship in an interview with Piers Morgan in 2021, claiming both of them were partly to blame for the unfortunate situation.

She said: “I wouldn't have said that publicly and he apologises to this day about that.
“He wishes he never said it because that baby was planned; we planned that baby together and we were madly in love, and it just went wrong, dramatically went wrong.
“He is the love of my life. He always will be.”
Speaking to US Weekly about his relationship with his son Angel, the Spice Girl star said that they ‘spend time together, they go on holiday together. He has ten kids he's a proper father’.
Being Eddie is available to watch on Netflix now.
