There are few thrillers that can keep you awake at night, and it’s a good thing. But this new series is shocking fans like never before.

Netflix is rolling out the binge-worthy shows lately and this is no exception.

Fans have taken to social media and online to leave reviews on this six-part series and they’re all loving it.

Based on a novel of the same name by M.T. Edvardsson, the Swedish show is set around the Sandwell family, a priest, and a lawyer who are looking to get to the bottom of a murder.

With suspense, secrets and a picturesque family at the forefront of an awful criminal investigation and trial.

As the whole plot revolves around a ‘did they or didn’t they do it’, it gripped fans right from the offset, particularly due to a 15-year age gap between the victim and Stella Sandwell, the daughter who is accused of his death.

One person wrote: “I thoroughly enjoyed this series. It's very well written (I might even read the book now!) and well acted with solid post-production touches.

“It hooked me from the first few minutes. It was a little formulaic, but the viewer doesn't know exactly what happened until the last scene.

“As another reviewer wrote, the English dub was flawless. So many shows/movies have very obvious voice-overs that are so noticeable that they distract the viewer from the substance of the show, but the voice work on this show had the right volume, was perfectly paced, and it was blended seamlessly. I was surprised by how I hardly noticed it was dubbed.”

Someone else said: “This Swedish series is excellent and thought provoking. The plot moves seamlessly from one episode to the next from the beginning to the end. It is well acted with believable characters who experience many different emotions as each family member attempts to react and resolve the tragic event that occurs along with its multiple repercussions. Definitely worth a watch due to it's universal theme about a family unit fractured as they struggle to heal and become stronger.”

Even Rotten Tomatoes has given it 76% because of its gritty plot and fantastic emotional range.

The synopsis reads: “The world of a seemingly perfect family shatters when a shocking murder proves that they’re willing to make desperate moves to protect one another.”

But it was always destined to be a success, as the director told Netflix that ‘from the first encounter with this story, I have appreciated that it really has something at heart.’

Per Hanefjord continued: “It raises complex issues, offers depth of character, and all the while with engaging suspense.”

Another reviewer thought the same thing and wrote: “This movie must have been a labor of love by the writers. It is very sympathetic to violence against women, which is a challenging topic in stories. It also has a well acted, interesting plot that holds your attention. The characters are flawed, dysfunctional and unhappy at times. But you forgive them because they have an greater goal to make sure true justice is served in a bad situation that would be almost impossible to explain in court.”
