Netflix's most bingeable psychological thriller shows ranked as decided by fans

Netflix's top 10 most bingeable mindf*ck shows have been decided on Reddit

Netflix, the biggest streaming service in the world, is full of some of the best psychological thrillers around.

Fans of the subgenre however have taken to Reddit to try and decide what the most mind-bending and bingeable shows are, and the top spot is occupied by an unsurprising show.

Between Baby Reindeer, Bodies, and the most recent excellent season of Black Mirror, Netflix viewers are absolutely spoilt for choice.

Despite this, one Reddit user and Netflix fan decided to try and discover a new mind-bending psychological thriller to binge, posting in the r/NetflixBestOf subreddit.

They posted, saying: “[Request] looking for psychological thriller shows that are a total mindf**k to binge on this weekend.”

The user specified the type of show they were looking for, saying: “I have a chill weekend ahead and want to dive into my fav genre... psychological thrillers!

“Shows like Severance, Maniac, Mindhunter, The Sinner, You, and Yellowjackets. Movies like Limitless, Looper, Elysium, Inception, The Matrix , Fight Club, Oblivion, Tomorrowland.

“Crime and mystery or sci fi thrillers dealing with psychopaths / exciting characters are also something I crave. Thanks in advance and happy binge watching!”

Though the poster was likely excited to get a few recommendations for hidden gems for the weekend, what they were likely not expecting was almost 300 comments.

Rather than simply taking the recommendations the poster ended up making a full spreadsheet of all the shows recommended, including the number of upvotes on the comments, the Rotten Tomatoes scores and the IMDb scores.

Here are the top five shows from the Reddit post that are available to watch now on Netflix:

5) The OA (11 upvotes)

Dubbed an 'unexpected hidden gem', The OA aired for two seasons from 2016 to 2019.

It has an 84 percent Rotten Tomatoes score and a 7.8 IMDb rating, and the sci-fi drama begins with a blind woman who went missing seven years ago showing up again suddenly able to see, and things only get more baffling from there on in.

One fan wrote: "My heart still breaks every time I remember it was cancelled. It had so, so much potential."

4) 3 Body Problem (16 upvotes)

3 Body Problem, which comes from Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss and is set to return for a second and final season, is an adaptation of Liu Cixin's epic sci-fi trilogy.

It has a 78 percent Rotten Tomatoes score and a 7.5 IMDb rating, and kicks off as physicists start dying in mysterious circumstances while all of the world's particle accelerators stop working, which is somehow linked to a cryptic VR game.

'Definitely total mindf**k' was one viewer's verdict.

3) Altered Carbon (27 upvotes)

Altered Carbon is a conspiracy thriller set in a world where people have worked out how to transfer human consciousness from one body to another, meaning anyone with enough cash can essentially live forever.

Joel Kinnaman is Takeshi Kovacs, a mercenary woken up after 250 years to solve a murder... with the help of an artificial intelligence in the body of Edgar Allen Poe.

One viewer said it was 'SO damned good' and it has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 75 percent and an IMDb score of 7.9.

Sadly it was cancelled after two seasons.

2) Behind Her Eyes (54 upvotes)

Behind Her Eyes has one of the most shocking plot twists of any series around and will have people rewatching to check they understood it correctly.

The show follows a woman who unwittingly befriends the wife of a man she is having an affair with, though the synopsis does not do justice to how bonkers the show gets.

One viewer said: "I was floored at the end. I have recommended this to everyone I know."

It had a 63 percent Rotten Tomatoes score and a 7.2 IMDb rating.

1) Dark (98 upvotes)

Top of the list by quite a distance, unsurprisingly, is Dark.

The German TV show about two children going missing in a small German town is more or less synonymous with the phrase ‘mind-bending Netflix drama’ and has a whopping average score of 8.7 on IMDb and 95 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

The top 10 in full are as follows:

  1. Dark
  2. Behind Her Eyes
  3. Altered Carbon
  4. 3 Body Problem
  5. The OA
  6. Ratched
  7. Russian Doll
  8. Squid Game
  9. The End Of The F***ing World
  10. The Sinner
