Netflix subscribers threaten to cancel memberships over major change to how people use it

Netflix users are furious at a change that was made to how they use the streamer

Netflix may be the most popular streaming service in the world with 300,000,000 subscribers, but its subscribers continue to threaten to cancel their memberships.

This has previously been an issue for the streamer when they made a change to the UI of their app on TVs, leaving droves of Netflix users furious.

The change, intended to streamline things on the platform, left many saying they didn’t want to use it, and this was the final straw.

A new problem has arisen for fans on Netflix, however, with one user already having said he had cancelled his membership because of it.

The issue first arose when Netflix made changes to how many households were allowed to be tied to one account.

Whereas before we lived in a utopia where one account could be shared across as many people as were willing to split the subscription fee, now Netflix accounts are tied to one location.

In an attempt to crack down on subscription sharing Netflix instituted rules where, unless you paid for a more expensive subscription to use it in multiple places, you couldn’t use it in more than one household.

Thus officially died the age-old awkward experience of realising your ex was still using your Netflix months after you broke up – because they’d be booted off unless you’re paying for extra households.

One fan took to Netflix to make a major complaint about how the streamer now works, stating that even though they pay the extra money for unlimited devices it’s a nightmare to set up.

Posting to Reddit on the r/Netflix subreddit, they said: “Dear Netflix: Registering Is Now Worse Than Tedious.

“Netflix apparently has never heard that folks can have more than one residence. Does it learn that you visit the same places over and over. Oh no. You have to jump through all the registration and security hoops OVER AND OVER despite the fact that you've paid for unlimited use.”

They go on to send a clear message, saying: “Wake up, Netflix. You're not irreplaceable.”

The post received a great deal of support on the subreddit, with one of the most popular comments revealing they had cancelled their subscription over the issue.

They said: “It’s why I unsubscribed last year. TV in my bedroom started telling me I wasn’t on the account. Well now no one is.”

Another comment said: “The thing is.. We paid for those extra screens.. It should not matter where they are being accessed from, and who is accessing it.

“It would be like a car company getting upset if you let someone borrow yours.”

Whilst the issue is sure to anger some Netflix fans, the upcoming slate of Wednesday and Stranger Things are likely to keep some subscribers around for a bit longer.
