People with thalassophobia should avoid typing new secret code into Netflix at all costs

No matter how hard you might think you are, we all have our own little phobias.

And while they might stop us from doing certain things, they could also probably prevent us from watching specific TV shows and films.

While there have been movies people have avoided if they’ve got a fear of heights, there’s a whole secret code on Netflix that people should avoid typing if they have got thalassophobia.

The streaming site has a whole long list of codes you can search for to bring up specific categories of things to watch and it makes it a whole lot easier to make decisions.

For example, searching the likes of ‘9875’ will bring up crime documentaries and biopics whereas ‘1192582’ gathers up ‘Binge-Worthy British Crime Dramas’.

But among all those is one that could trigger people’s thalassophobia.

With a name deriving from the Ancient Greek word for ocean, ‘thalassa’, it’s a fear of the ocean or other large bodies of water.

Among the more general Netflix hidden codes for things to watch, there is the more specific ones that could make for a fear-inducing watch.

By searching the code ‘45028’, you’ll find a shed load of ‘Deep Sea Horror Movies’. Unsurprisingly, films in this category include the likes of 1975 classic American thriller, Jaws.

There’s also the 2023 survival thriller Nowhere which left viewers ‘screaming at the TV’. The Spanish-language film saw a pregnant woman trapped in a cargo ship container that gets knocked into the ocean. An absolutely gripping flick, it’s been branded as a ‘must watch’ by many - although, probably not for those with thalassophobia.

Released earlier this year, another watch in the category is Deep Fear which sees a round-the-world yachtswoman setting out on a solo trip before being swerved offtrack by a storm.

Getting a low score from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s probably also not a watch for viewers with a phobia of sharks as it features a whole load of those too.

And if you do have thalassophobia but are still looking for something specific to watch on Netflix, it’s worth trying out some of the other ‘hidden codes’.

Tudum previously explained: "Your Netflix queue is always stacked with movies and shows to hit play on, but what you might not know is that there’s a hidden way to make that viewing experience even better."

It added: “So if you’re in the mood for something as specific as, say, Gentle British Reality TV (with the code 81240711) or Witchcraft & the Dark Arts (81552046), or think all movies should be short (90-Minute Movies, aka 81466194), there’s a code and corresponding collection waiting for you.”
