If you were looking for who has had the biggest 2025 in film and TV at the close of the first month, it’s hard to look past Netflix.

The streamer has already started January at a canter when they added Missing You on New Year’s Day, adding to Squid Game season two’s still strong performance from Boxing Day 2024.

On top of this you’ve got season two of The Night Agent and The Recruit, and announcements for Stranger Things, Wednesday, and more Squid Game coming later this year.

If you ask some though, the biggest thing Netflix have done so far in 2025 is none of the above.

It is for many in actual fact adding Yellowstone, a record-breaking drama which has been called a ‘must-watch’, in the UK.

The show which ran for five seasons was created by Taylor Sheridan, the writer behind underrated thrillers such as Sicario, Hell or High Water, and Wind River.

Yellowstone was also helmed by Kevin Costner for the majority of the show, and he is also joined in the cast by Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Gil Birmingham, Wes Bentley and Kelsey Absille.

Since releasing it has received astoundingly positive reviews, with an 8.6 on IMDb, an 83 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes, and Kevin Costner won a Golden Globe in 2023 for his performance in the show.

The show set ratings records for several of the years it was on TV, with season five being the most watched show of 2022 (via SlashFilm), the biggest since 2017’s season of Walking Dead.

The series five finale also smashed viewership records, with 16.4 million people tuning in, Deadline reports.

Viewers love the show and will be thrilled to see it added to Netflix.

The New York Post called the show ‘addictive’, while one viewer on Reddit called it ‘Sons of Anarchy on a Ranch’.

Another called the show a ‘country version of The Sopranos’ before saying in a 9/10 review on IMDb: “This is the type of show where cowboy/western life meets big city mafia life.

“This show is well cast, the first two episodes have been well written and leaves you wanting more after every episode. Not to mention the Montana and Utah scenery is beautiful.”

Another said; “Yellowstone is one of the best shows on tv right now and has been since it first started back in 2018.

“It's been the #1 show on cable 5 years in a row! It's hard to explain just how good this show really is.

“It's one of the rare shows where almost every episode is just as good as the others. I can not recommend this show enough, just go watch it for yourself.”

A third said of the series: “Yellowstone is a classic of this mould and it can only be achieved by the correct casting and this has been done to perfection.

“Every actor/ actress is top class and perfect in the role they portray add the spectacular setting and great script and you have a Winning show that can continue for many seasons and mature like a fine wine.

“Yellowstone is a great show and a must watch.”

If you believe those reviews you’re in luck, because you can watch it now on Netflix in the UK.
