The Gentlemen star gives explanation for character after viewers made same complaint

The Gentlemen star gives explanation for character after viewers made same complaint

The actor has explained the character's 'messed up' actions

Netflix has been dropping absolute bangers this year from Fool Me Once to true crime docs and the latest is no different.

Many viewers have already binged The Gentlemen with fans absolutely loving the crime drama.

The Netflix series is a spin-off of Guy Ritchie’s 2019 film of the same name and stars Theo James as the lead, Eddie Horniman.

He’s a posh bloke who gets a taste for underground crime after inheriting his dad’s mega country estate - which happens to be part of a weed empire.

But as much as fans loving it and while it sits in the number one sport for the UK, there has been many making the same complaint.

Alongside the likes of James, Kaya Scodelario (who fans have been realising was in Skins), Vinnie Jones and Giancarlo Esposito is Daniel Ings in the role of Eddie’s brother, Freddy.

And he had viewers instantly urging others to watch with a ‘messed up’ chicken scene in the first episode.

But some fans have been struggling to understand just how Freddy can mess up so much.

Right from episode one, Eddie finds out his brother owes £8 million to a dodgy drug dealer and then later on he ends up adding murder to his list of wrongdoings.

One fan on X was quick to write: “There is annoying, then there’s Freddy on The Gentlemen.”

And another joked: “Freddy is such an annoying imp omg. That’s why his dad didn’t will him anything.”

And now Ings has had his say on the chaotic character.

The Gentlemen is available to stream on Netflix now.

He explained why Freddy has these ‘extreme reactions’ to London Live.

Ings said: “There’s this sense that his younger brother, who’s always been the favourite son - and forgetting about their privilege and their wealth and their land and titles and all that stuff.

“Actually the fact of being someone who’s always kind of known that everybody prefers the younger sibling is fairly universal.”

Ings said that when the show dives into those family dynamics ‘it tends to be in a way that you can understand their extreme reactions’.

“I hope,” he added.

Fans on X said that Freddy’s actions quickly prove ‘why his father did what he did’.

While one even commented: “I’m watching The Gentlemen and I want to kill Freddy.”

Someone else put: “Just one episode in The Gentlemen and I want to strangle Freddy myself. WTF!!!”

And another added: “Freddy has to be the most annoying character ever in a series.”

Poor guy.
