Peter Dinklage slams upcoming Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs remake

Peter Dinklage slams upcoming Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs remake

Peter Dinklage isn't happy with Disney for their upcoming Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs remake

Peter Dinklage has struck back at Disney for their remake of Snow White after sticking with the original and dated narrative.

Over the last decade, Disney has taken to turning it's much-loved classic animations into live action movies, featuring renowned actors from all across the globe in productions such as The Lion King (2019), Mulan (2020) and The Little Mermaid (2023).

This trend that they seem to be continuing with has most recently been joined with children's fairytale Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which was released almost a century ago in 1937.

But many have had their strong opinions on this, including none other than actor Peter Dinklage.

Dinklage, who rose to fame after his breakout role in 2003 movie The Station Agent, is most well-known for his role as Tyrion Lannister in hit HBO fantasy series, Game of Thrones.

When speaking about the announcement to reincarnate the film as a live action movie on Marc Maron's podcast, WTF with Marc Maron, earlier this year, Dinklage was quick to call out Disney for recreating a movie that has caused controversy with its outdated narrative in the past.

"They were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White, but you’re still telling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," he said in reference to the casting of West Side Story star, Rachel Zegler, for the role of Snow White.

Dinklage continued, explaining he asked the makers of the Disney film to 'take a step back and look at what you’re doing there'.

"It makes no sense to me. Because you’re progressive in one way, but you’re still making that f**king backward story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together, what the f**k are you doing, man?"

He went on: "Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough.

"All love and respect to the actress and the people who thought they were doing the right thing. But I’m just like, what are you doing?”

Following the comments made by Dinklage on Maron's podcast, Disney issued the following statement to The Wrap: "To avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, we are taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community.

"We look forward to sharing more as the film heads into production after a lengthy development period."

The Wrap also states that the seven characters will instead be replaced by seven 'magical creatures' in order to align with their above statement.
