A woman who takes a substance called Methylene Blue has explained that it produced a dramatic and visible side effect when she took it without something else.
TikToker @biohacked_belle said she has 'so much energy' and feels 'lighter and happier' for taking Methylene Blue, claiming it 'boosts brain power' and lifts her mood.
However, she explained in a TikTok video that when she started taking it she made 'two mistakes' when she started, and the first one was taking too much of it too soon.

She described going in 'hardcore' and taking 10 drops of the stuff in water as her dosage, which she said left her feeling nauseous and not wanting to eat food.
Doing a bit more research, she claims that she 'went in too heavy' with 10 drops and you're supposed to start with two or three and build your way up to 10.
However, that wasn't the only side effect she felt as she also saw the results of what taking this stuff could supposedly do.
What is Methylene Blue?

It sounds like the stuff Walter White made in Breaking Bad, but it's actually a substance which has been used to treat a number of ailments throughout the years.
It was first created in 1876 and became the world's first synthetic drug for treating malaria parasites, it also ended up being used as a blue dye for paper and textiles.
This thing is normally used to treat something called Methemoglobinemia, which is where you've got too much methaemoglobin in your blood which can give you headaches, dizziness, nausea and even seizures.
It was also used to treat cyanide poisoning once upon a time. More recent proponents claim it's a useful substance for biohacking as people have alleged that its helped with their mental health symptoms.
Of course, there are risks, particularly to using it without medical advice, as neuroscientist Anne-Sophie Fluri told the Daily Mail: “Without solid evidence in humans, these claims are at best speculative and at worst potentially dangerous.”

She pointed out that the human brain was not something you could 'optimise like a smartphone', and experts have warned that taking it could lead to seizures or the destruction of red blood cells.
Who has been using Methylene Blue?

Methylene Blue has been swirling around certain celebrity circles with famous faces claiming it has worked wonders for them, though we hope you'd have a discussion with a doctor before getting on a new substance because you heard someone famous talking about it.
Mel Gibson and Joe Rogan, not exactly a medical advisory board, both extolled its virtues by saying 'this stuff works' and Rogan said that he takes it on a daily basis.
What side effect did she experience?
As for what Belle experienced when she took Methylene Blue, she explained that she started downing it alongside a ginger shot because it didn't taste very nice and she'd been advised to get some Vitamin C down her along with the drug.

"What I'd noticed was when I didn't take the vitamin c my urine was this, like, glowing blue," she said in a TikTok as she painted a vivid picture of one of the possible side effects.
"It was like, you know you've taken Methylene Blue. When I took the vitamin c shot there was no colouration so I was like 'hmm, what's going on here', let's research what's going on with this.
"I went and did some more research and found out that actually when you do take it with vitamin c it makes the Methylene Blue a lot less effective so I don't take it with vitamin c, you're just gonna have to suck it up and just have it with a nasty flavour."
She did insist that the health benefits were worth the poor taste and blue urine, claiming it 'outweighs all the negatives'.

According to a 2024 study on BioMed Central, dyed urine can be a possible symptom of Methylene Blue digestion, and a combination with vitamin C is often used as 'indicator dye' for procedures, such as colonoscopic polypectomy.
While another study from 2020 indicates that Vitamin C, or 'ascorbic acid', can 'reduce compounds' like Methylene Blue.
