Just when we thought we were about to find out what happened...

The excitement surrounding the Gavin & Stacey Christmas Special was up there with our Christmas dinners and it's fair to say the cast haven't disappointed.

Well, that is apart from the fact we didn't find out what happened on Bryn and Jason's mysterious fishing trip, something fans have been left devastated about.

As all the family sat around exchanging gifts things got a bit too much for Bryn (played by Rob Brydon), who had a heavy night on the Archers, when Gwen (Melanie Walters) framed old photographs for them all.

Noticing Bryn's reaction, Mick (Larry Lamb) asks: "You alright, Bryn? You look like you've seen a ghost." Before Stacey (Joanna Page) interjects, asking Jason: "What've you got, Jase?"

Jason opened his gift.

Jason replies: "It's a photo of me and uncle Bryn when we went... fishing." Smithy's new - and rather puzzled - girlfriend, Sonia awkwardly quizzes: "Right, am I missing something? What fishing trip? Did something happen on a fishing trip?" Well, she's clearly not been waiting for what feels like a lifetime to find out, like we have.

As Gwen tries to change the attention to the Queen's speech, Bryn announces: "Put down the remote... for the time has come."

Gwen couldn't believe what she had given them.

He goes on: "You want to know what happened?" *Yes, yes of course we do, more than anything else*. Standing up he tells the room: "It was very dark, in every sense of the word." At this point, Jason adds: "Can I just point out that we knew nothing about camping."

With the tension building, Bryn carried on: "It was my bad. It was all my bad. You see everyone it was supposed to be... what happened was I..."

The kids all come bounding in asking to open selection boxes and that's the end of that. Hopes and dreams ruined in one split second.

Just last week Joanna Page (who plays Stacey) teased us by hinting that we might find out more about the long-running mystery.

The 42-year-old said: "It's sort of like everything you wanted and you love about it and lots of new and interesting things as well. But I'd tune in because there might just be a little conversation about the fishing trip."

Well, there was, and we're none the wiser. Damn you, Gavin & Stacey.
