A Dutch influencer has gone viral after spotting a Chinese soap opera had used a snap of her and her boyfriend - but replaced her face with that of a local star.

Rianne Meijer, who has more than 1.4 million followers on Instagram, was shocked to find her photo was being used in the Chinese TV drama Summer Again, although the image had been altered to show her boyfriend snuggled up with another woman.

Meijer posted a video on her TikTok page to share the hilarious revelation, soon racking up hundreds of thousands of likes and a whopping 3.7 million views.

Beginning by showing users the original photo, Meijer said: "Remember this picture? This is a picture that I posted with my boyfriend a while ago."

She then cut to a clip from Summer Again, which showed the revamped photo.

"And now look at it... Watch, watch," she said, before laughing and adding: "Who is that?!"

While her boyfriend's body appears to be unchanged, on the other side of the photo Meijer has been replaced with a Chinese actor's face.

According to local media, the woman in the photo is Chinese star Li Borong, whose character is in a relationship with a man called Andre.

However, media reported that the photo showing 'Andre' in the TV drama is actually an image of Meijer's boyfriend Roy.

Thankfully, the influencer was able to see the funny side, joking: "I mean, they look good together. I don't know, it's fine!"

Many people weren't so forgiving for the bizarre use of prop, with some users on the Chinese social media platform Weibo saying they found the incident 'embarassing'.

A number of people on TikTok also said Meijer should charge the show for the use of her image.

Others, meanwhile, also found it funny, joking that 'this is the reality of our global village' and adding: "You would think nobody would find out, but it is really not so secret!"

In an update on TikTok, Meijer explained that crew members from the show had been in touch to apologise, and that the situation was 'all good'.

She wrote: "Update: the crew of the show send an apology this morning and honestly; ALL GOOD. They are so sweet and this gave us a good laugh."
