Two New Episodes Of Normal People Are In The Works

Normal Older People will be set 40 years later and explore what happened to Connell and Marianne.

Just when you thought you had said goodbye to Connell and Marianne's intense and rollercoaster relationship, creators have promised new material.

Two new episodes of Normal People will be made, which will explore what the hell happened to the couple from Ireland.

We said goodbye to the pair in a very heartbreaking way: Connell (Paul Mescal) was accepted to pursue his studies in New York City and Marianne (Daisy Edgar-Jones) decided to stay in Ireland and enjoy the life she had set up.

It was a mature decision but one that left us in a flood of tears and we haven't been the same since.

But UK charity Comic Relief has teamed up with Sally Rooney to make the two new episodes.

Comic Relief co-founder Richard Curtis told RTÉ Radio 1: "There's a beautiful piece called Normal Older People, which is imagining what would have happened to Marianne and Connell 40 years from now.

"I promise you, these are two very special bits.

"It's so much better than anything we've ever made. I mean I can't even say all about it because there's a guest star in it.

"But it's really, it's really beautiful. One of the things about Comic Relief is it just gives opportunities for things to happen that would never happen. I can't imagine any context in which they would have allowed this little sort of extra-special into the world of Normal People."

Will they be together? Will they be in torrid other relationships? Will they be happy with new people, only to run in each other at their school's 40th school reunion and fall in love all over again?

Who knows, only time will tell on that one.

Until then, we can get excited at the idea that Sally Rooney, the author who wrote Normal People, is having her second novel turned into a TV series.

Conversations with Friends will be put together by some of the people who did Normal People, however no release date has been set yet.

The show's co-producer Ed Guiney said: "It's the same basic team. Lenny's [Abrahamson] going to direct it and is across it as an EP. And Alice Birch and all of us at Element Pictures.

"So, in a way, that's what we'll be turning our attention to next. But maybe down the line we'll come back to Connell and Marianne."

We cannot wait.
