An independent Irish film, which has received rave reviews over on Rotten Tomatoes, is now free to stream online.

The movie was made back in 2017 and was written and directed by Mark O'Connor.

Scooping a near perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes is no mean feat and it has managed to bag 94 percent, which is a huge achievement.

The film follows the story of Jay Connolly (played by co-writer John Connors) and his group of low-level drug dealers in Darndale, Dublin, as they set out to rule the area's illegal drug trade.

Unfortunately for Jay and his gang, the set of people at the top of Darndale's drug trade have been in power for decades, and they aren't willing to let the Cardboard Gangsters take control of the scene without a fight.

All this makes Cardboard Gangsters quite a tense watch, and the film has a particularly bleak ending.

You can watch the trailer below:

People have been loving the movie, which has now been added to YouTube, with many praising the flick over it's gripping storyline.

One person wrote: "The film is crackingly done, with a bleak humour when needed and a black savagery when not."

While another said: "One of the best movies I've seen this year."

And a third added: "Really excellent movie with a brilliant performance by John Connors."

"Cardboard gangsters on netflix is probably the best thing on there at the minute," said a fourth.

And a fifth added: "Cardboard Gangsters is a superb movie. John Connors has what all good actors must - the ability to be quiet yet show the turmoil inside."

Meanwhile a sixth called it a 'must watch' and one gave it a 10/10.

"Highly recommend Cardboard Gangsters on Netflix. Powerful stuff 10/10 Best I’ve seen in ages," they said.

It follows the story of Jay Connolly.

Cardboard Gangsters' grittiness even impressed awards judges too, as the film won the awards for Best Feature Film and Best Actor (for John Connors) at the Manchester International Film Festival back in 2017.

So if you're at a loss for something to watch this weekend, this one is definitely worth a shot.

You can stream Cardboard Gangsters for free over on YouTube now.
