Claudia Winkleman answers secret of where The Traitors contestants stay while filming

The legendary host has lifted the lid on a widely asked question

Claudia Winkleman has lifted the lid on one of the TV series' most frequently asked questions.

BBC series The Traitors sent the country into a frenzy earlier this year, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats for all 12 episodes of its second season.

The finale has people's jaws firmly on the floor, which you can view here if you haven't seen it already:

That's right, traitor Harry walked away with the grand prize of £95,150, betraying 'friend' and faithful Mollie to top off a tense series.

He did later promise her a holiday with a cut of his prize money though - so no bad blood there.

But throughout The Traitors' run, and even following the close of UK's second season, questions have surrounded the show about how it was filmed, what restrictions the contestants had - and some of which have already been answered.

However, there is one burning question that fans have been desperate to know, which is, 'Where do they sleep?'

It is shot in Ardoss Castle, Alness, in the Scottish Highlands and there are even shots of contestants getting ready or working out in the castle rooms, but many fans have been sceptical about the authenticity of them.

And who better than TV royalty Claudia Winkleman, host of the show itself, to answer this question?

Speaking on Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett's Dish podcast, she revealed that the stars sleep 'in different hotels' to make sure they cannot discuss the day's events.

She explained: "The amazing thing about that castle is if you leave the castle, it goes- there are so many tributaries.

"So everybody is man-marked, they have somebody who is looking after them, and when they leave the castle, they don’t see each other until they arrive at breakfast."

Winkleman also revealed that contestants have their phones taken away, and stay up 'really late' due to filming.

The Traitors, who obviously have to plot their murders before everyone 'wakes up', stay later for filming though ‘there is no way they can bump into anyone’.

She added: "Everybody leaves, including the Traitors… and then they’re brought back, about an hour later."

Contestants stay in separate hotels to avoid any potential crossovers.

Though that answer is different to what the host of the US version, actor Alan Cumming, said about where American contestants stayed despite shooting at the same castle.

He revealed to The Daily Beast: "They all stayed in the airport hotel in the Inverness airport. How glamorous – you come to Scotland, and you stay in the Inverness airport hotel!

"I stayed in a little house in Inverness. But I had a room in the castle where I would get made up and dressed. It had a huge bed in it.

"So I did actually sleep quite often, but not overnight."
