Erin Moriarty, who plays Starlight on The Boys, has revealed the extent of her poor health during the final season of the show, with her lack of diagnosis leading her to think she was dying.
The Boys season five has seen Starlight struggling more than ever before, struggling to remain the entirely heroic character she has been for the first four seasons.
Moriarty’s health struggles whilst filming were just extreme however and has led the celebrity to state that she has no plans to watch the final season of the show.
Moriarty suffers from an auto-immune condition called Grave’s Disease, with her symptoms worsening during filming of season five.

In a startling new admission on Instagram she has stated that it got so severe that she was left unable to walk.
What is Grave’s disease and what did Moriarty say about filming The Boys?
The auto-immune condition occurs when someone produces too much thyroid hormone, causing something called hyperthyroidism which speeds up the processes within your body. It can have a massive effect on people who suffer from it, and it left the 31-year-old actor unable to walk.
Posting on Instagram about the newest episode of the show’s fifth season, the actor said season five episode four is ‘one of the most important episodes’ she’s shot.

She went on to explain: “Unfortunately, that part of the season coincided with my health issues peaking before my diagnosis. I'm saving you the gnarly part of this picture but not long after this episode, I started to lose the ability to walk.
“The numbness in my feet led to a lot of falling. The night before we shot my segment of this episode, I fell and shredded up my knee."
She went on to add that she wasn’t looking for pity, simply to say: “F*ck auto-immune disease.”
In a separate interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she opened up about her health struggles filming the final season.
Moriarty said she doesn’t plan to watch the final season despite being a ‘fan of the show’
Speaking in the new interview she revealed that she was ‘not as present’ as she wanted playing Starlight, aka Annie, in the final season.
She said: “I was starting to feel so ill, and even though I come from a family of doctors, no one thought to say, ‘Go get your levels tested.’
“So it did lead to me not being as present for Annie during this final season as I would’ve hoped, and that was super painful for me.

“It was like I was offline for the first six to seven episodes, and then I came back online. I finally felt present at the very end of season five.”
She stated that she was surrounded by a ‘really supportive cast and crew’, but stated it was ‘really scary’ at times.
The actor continued: “I’ve watched every season of The Boys. I love this show so much. But I’m not watching the final season simply because it’s really important for me at this moment in time to put my psychological health above all other things.”
