
Helena Bonham Carter has left her role in the upcoming season of The White Lotus, a week after production kicked off.
According to a Deadline update on the popular HBO anthology series, the 59-year-old actor bowed out of the role over creative differences shortly after cameras started rolling in idyllic tourist spots along the French Riviera.
"With filming just underway on Season 4 of The White Lotus, it had become apparent that the character which Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not align once on set," read a statement from an HBO spokesperson.
The statement went on to add that Carter's role had since been 'rethought' and would be rewritten and recast in the 'coming weeks'.

"HBO, the producers and Mike White are saddened that they won’t get to work with her [Carter], but remain ardent fans and very much hope to work with the legendary actress on another project soon," the statement concluded.
It's understood that production is ongoing while a replacement for Carter is found, with the cast currently on location in the South of France.
The news of Carter's departure from the series will likely come as a surprise to The White Lotus fans, as creator, writer, and director Mike White previously revealed the Harry Potter actor had been the first actor considered for the new episodes, which are taking place during the Cannes Film Festival. Her character was also believed to be central to the plot of season four.
Carter isn't the only exist ahead of the Emmy-award winning series faces ahead of its fourth season, with longstanding composer Cristóbal Tapia de Veer also departing.
Tapia de Veer, who is responsible for creating the show's theme tune, confirmed his exit during an interview with The New York Times, saying it was down to creative differences between him and White.

What do we know about The White Lotus season four?
As mentioned above, the series is taking place at numerous upmarket locations, including Cannes, St. Tropez, and Monaco. "The fourth season will follow a new group of White Lotus hotel guests and employees over the span of a week, taking place during the Cannes Film Festival," the official log line for the series reads.
Filming for the fourth season is still ongoing, with Steve Coogan, Ari Graynor, Alexander Ludwig, Kumail Nanjiani, AJ Michalka, and others still signed on for the season.
The fourth iteration of The White Lotus follows a hugely successful third season filmed in Thailand.
Starring Jason Isaacs, Parker Posey, Walton Goggins, Aimee Lou Wood and Patrick Schwarzenegger, the series received nominations at the Golden Globes, Emmys and Actor Awards.
