Jonathan Ross reveals he was in trouble with Celebrity Traitors bosses over 'rule break'

The TV presenter claims he 'let slip' a clue during his time on the show

Jonathan Ross has reflected on his time on The Celebrity Traitors after revealing that he accidentally 'broke a rule'.

The TV presenter, 64, is one of the big names who joined the first ever group of celebs in the Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands.

But after a chaotic start to the show, no one has been able to figure out who the Traitors are.

Only Faithfuls have left, so far, as Sir Stephen Fry and Mark Bonnar were the latest to get booted out on Thursday (23 October).

Meanwhile, Ross is part of the Traitors group - alongside Alan Carr and Cat Burns - who have delivered a stellar performance thus far.

In a recent episode of his podcast, Reel Talk, however, the star admitted that he 'let slip' a clue.

He explained to his daughter Honey: "It's nerve-wracking watching it for me. The round tables, of course, because a lot of stuff is edited out and I'm not allowed to talk about the stuff that's edited out, which I can understand why.

"When I started talking about it last week, they sent us all a kind of list saying, 'Just to remind you, these are the things in your contracts you're not allowed to talk about'.

"So I'll skirt around it as much as possible and not break any rules.

"But there's a fairly comprehensive list, and most of it I can see is to protect the integrity of the game as a viewing experience for people, so it makes perfect sense."

Ross said Clare Balding started to become suspicious of him when he accidentally gave her a 'clue'.

"I don't think I particularly played the game well. Some people weren't playing it well and I think Clare was trying to play it cleverly," he said.

"She - I think - had figured me out quite clearly and more so than actually appeared on the screen.

"On the Uncloaked episode where she sees it's my name, she goes 'Oh I was going to go for him last night' - because I'd actually said something to her the night before which I think made her think it was me."

Ross, who recently opened up about his mental state on the show, claimed that it was edited out after 'she was fairly confident it was me'.

He added: "So you can imagine how delighted I was when she put Charlotte's name down.

"She was doing it smart, because she knew she didn't have enough people to support my claim yet and if I say him and he is a Traitor, he may well murder me, so I'll do this and then maybe keep me closer and get rid of me the next time."

The Celebrity Traitors airs on Wednesday and Thursday on BBC One at 9pm and will be available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
