Why viewers think OJ Simpson ‘admitted’ to murdering ex-wife

While OJ Simpson was found not guilty at a criminal trial, people remain suspicious

Viewers of a TV interview believe that O.J. Simpson, the controversial late NFL star, admitted to killing his ex-wife.

Simpson was the focus of the ‘trial of the century’ in 1994 and ’95 in which he was accused of murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman.

Though Simpson was acquitted, there were various incidents throughout the years in which he implied he had got away with literal murder.

He released a book in which he described hypothetically how he 'would' have killed Nicole and Ron.

After a lawsuit by Nicole’s family the title of this was changed to If I Did It: The Confessions of a Killer, with the ‘If’ often being presented in small writing on the book so it read as ‘I Did It’.

In addition to this, one particular clip went viral after his death in which he pretended to stab Ruby Wax as a ‘joke’ after hiding behind a shower curtain Psycho style.

Though found not guilty in criminal court, Simpson was also found financially liable in civil court for their deaths, and in the court of public opinion many believe that he did indeed carry out their murders.

This was reinforced by his appearance in a TV interview for Fox, titled The Lost Confession.

Though this took place in 2006, the footage never aired until 2018, and sees Simpson go through a ‘hypothetical’ account of how he disposed of their bodies.

The late NFL star and actor spoke in disturbing detail about the crime scene, disposing of blood-stained clothes, laughing throughout.

The Lost Confession saw experts analysing clips and providing commentary during the interview.

Publisher Judith Regan, who worked with Simpson on If I Did It, said she was ‘absolutely’ convinced he did it, adding: “There’s no doubt in my mind.”

Prosecutor Christopher Darden, who was involved in the criminal murder trial, also believed the interview was a confession from O.J.

He said: “I don't think there's any question of his involvement and that he is the person who is wielding the knife.”

Discussions of O.J.’s innocence have re-emerged under a year after his death due to the release of Netflix documentary American Manhunt: O.J. Simpson.

Despite the controversial man's recent death, viewers are not convinced another doc is necessary.

In the comments on the doc's trailer, one fan said: "How many damn OJ Simpson documentaries are we gonna get?"

Another said: "Netflix be like 'look at all these amazing documentaries we can pick up! But no let’s just do another OJ one'."

American Manhunt: O.J. Simpson is available to watch on Netflix now.
