The 1% Club viewers shocked as single 'easy' question knocks 'record' 32 contestants out

The 1% Club viewers shocked as single 'easy' question knocks 'record' 32 contestants out

Viewers were shocked that so many contestants were floored by the question

The 1% Club viewers were left in shock when an 'easy question' managed to knock out 32 contestants.

The question, which was asked during the show on Saturday (18 May) saw host Lee Mack completely taken aback.

For those not in the know, the ITV show sees comedian Lee attempt to find the smartest one percent group in Britain.

When the gameshow begins, it seems as though it will be pretty straightforward - especially considering most people can crack the first few questions, but soon, increasingly difficult questions see the group whittled down to just one percent.

The contestants are competing to win prize money up to £100,000, meanwhile viewers at home are encouraged to join in too.

And those playing along at home were left in shock when one of Saturday's questions managed to baffle so many.

Would you struggle with this?

The question was: Which of these would it be impossible to do? (A) Marry your cousin's cousin (B) Marry your brother's widow (C) Marry your widow's sister.

Kind of seems obvious, right? Apparently not.

Ready for the answer?

Host Lee Mack explained: "You would not be able to marry your widow's sister as you would already be dead. Before we get any complaints - I accept that is a bit zombie-ist."

When contestant Jamil explained he had answered B, Mack explained: "Yes, your brother's widow - she's still alive but your brother has died. This isn't me breaking any news, I'm just telling you the answer to the question!"

Many other contestants admitted they had also answered B - but social media was left in shock.

One person wrote on X: "How did 32 people get that wrong!"

While another said: "Flipping heck 32 out!"

And a third added: "32 out on that question. Must be a record."

Meanwhile, Lee added: "Wow. That is massive. 32 people went out on that one!"

Last month, fans were growing increasingly frustrated about one of the answers on the show.

The question was: "If you had eight fingers on your left hand, six fingers on your right hand, the same number of toes on your right foot as your left hand and three toes on your left foot, how many fingers and toes would you have on total?"

While 25 was given as the correct answer on the show, some people were adamant it was incorrect.

One wrote: "Surely this is 17 @1PercentClubITV, 'The same number of toes on your right foot as your left hand' means the same number of toes on my right foot as there are toes on my left hand = 0. 8 + 6 + 0 + 3 = 17."

One commented agreeing that the question was phrased in a confusing way.

Writing on the Digital Spy forum for show, another viewer claimed: "The independent adjudicator had to be called in on this one cos someone gave an answer about this. Their answer was accepted."
