Man Leaving Work After Five Years Pranked By Co-Workers With Card Of Just Four Signatures

A man thought only four out of 500 staff cared that he was leaving

It's a sad fact of life that we spend the vast majority of it working. Which also means we spend the majority of our hours alive with people we don't necessarily choose to be with, but ones who just happen to work in the same office or building as us.

If you get on with those people, it makes not just 9 to 5 better, but life in general. But goes without saying that if we don't have nice co-workers, it's going to make all of it much more intolerable.

Imagine how Reddit user NubShakeZ felt, then when he received this giant leaving card from his co-workers with just four signatures and greetings on it. Posted the photo of the sorry card to Reddit, he wrote: "I'm leaving my job after 5 years today, over 500 people I work with, this is my leaving card."

To be fair, thinking that people like you and then finding out they actually don't is worse than knowing people don't like you. You can almost see his heart breaking in the photo. Especially, as a little later in the thread he writes: "Apparently I'm the most liked in my department."

Reddit users were largely sympathetic to his plight, however - and some even shared their own horror stories to make him feel better about the whole thing.

One user, who goes by Capt_Bigglesworth wrote: "My first job, was there 6yrs. 5 employee company . Barely got a goodbye, no chance of a card. Second job, was there 11 yrs, huge corporate.

"As soon as I said I was leaving I was put on gardening leave and was called back in out of hours to return my phone, pass and laptop. No goodbye / card / was escorted in and out by security."

"I left mine in 2014 after 25 years. No card, nothing. I don't miss it!" posted Redditer Riversmooth, while grizzmuggets wrote: "A few years back I was about a month shy of finishing a contract and found an unsigned farewell card in my pigeon hole. Card had been bought and given to me before anyone had had a chance to sign it.

"Although that's not so bad compared to two people I worked with last year who finished at the same time. They were both told they were valued employees but got given each other's farewell cards by mistake."

Thankfully for NubShakeZ, it all turned out to be one big prank. The big card was just a decoy and he was later given his real, fully signed leaving card, which looked like this. How sweet. Sort of.

The eagle-eyed among you might have spotted a comment in the card above about 'a bloody condom story'. If you want to know what happened, it's explained in the Reddit thread, but suffice to say it's an even worse (better?) prank than the card. We'll leave it at that.
