When you're carrying an incredibly valuable amount of illegal drugs in your car, you'd probably want to go from A to B with no detours. But one carload of alleged criminals' appetite somehow got the better of them, and they succumbed to the alluring lights of the Golden Arches.

It's reported that police located a Toyota Kluger going into a McDonald's drive-thru in Rockhampton around 4am.

When they first inspected the Kluger, there was nothing to be found, until they located five kilograms of ice hidden in a compartment underneath the back seats. It's estimated the drugs have a wholesale value of nearly $1 million so street value is estimated to be much higher.

Detective Senior Sergeant Luke Peachy says it's the biggest find ever in the region: "We had an earlier find this year of a kilogram but for five kilograms to be found, this is huge.

"It's the largest amount of drug I've seen in Rockhampton or in fact, any other place I've worked in regional Queensland.

"The amount of drug is very, very significant and we're very pleased to have gotten this... before it hits the street."

Two Brisbane men in their 30s have been charged with drug-related offences, including possession of dangerous drugs, possession of tainted property, and contravening an order.

Mr Peachy says they managed to find the duo after a tip-off about their whereabouts: "We'd received a certain amount of information and we were keeping an eye out for a certain vehicle."

"As a result, we were lucky enough to find that vehicle going through the drive-through at McDonald's and as a result detain that vehicle and those persons in it."

They certainly aren't the only one who have been busted by the cops while tucking into some Maccas. A gang pulled into a takeaway restaurant in Scotland just after allegedly carrying out a daring theft of an ATM.

Sitting just 11km away from the robbery site, they were sitting in their cars when police pounced. They were quickly swarmed by the brass on all sides and even took out their vehicle's tyres with rubber bullets.

Seven members of the gang have been convicted of conspiring to cause explosions and burgle commercial premises.
