Paul Rudd has revealed the one type of music he thinks can instantly rescue a dying Irish wedding dancefloor, and honestly, he’s absolutely correct.
The actor sat down with director John Carney for a chat with LADbible Ireland to discuss weddings, music, Sing Street and the songs guaranteed to drag people back onto the floor once the energy starts dipping and everyone mysteriously disappears for a smoke break at the same time.

Speaking about Carney’s new music-centred comedy Power Ballad, the conversation quickly turned to the ultimate wedding anthems, with Rudd immediately backing disco classics as the safest possible choice.
“September by Earth, Wind & Fire is a good one,” he said.
And to be fair, he’s not wrong. You could play that song at a funeral in Ireland and somebody’s auntie would still end up doing spins in heels.
Carney agreed, explaining that anything with a “four-on-the-floor disco beat” usually does the trick.
“It’s going to get the girls out of the bathrooms and get everybody back onto the dancefloor,” he laughed.
The pair then joked about songs that may have been slightly overplayed over the years, with Don’t Stop Believin’ getting a mention thanks to its seemingly eternal popularity.
Carney joked that the song’s resurgence after The Sopranos finale means people still can’t escape it decades later.
“That song was around when we were kids and now it’s around again,” he said.
The interview also took a surprisingly wholesome turn when the conversation shifted to Sing Street, after Carney was asked whether Rudd could ever play an older version of Conor from the beloved Dublin-set film. Thankfully, Carney didn’t exactly rule it out.

“All musicians are a bit similar in a way,” he explained, before speaking about the very specific personality traits shared by lead singers.
Naturally, things escalated from there, with Rudd jokingly pitching “Sing Street 8” in the style of the Fast & Furious franchise.
Which, let’s be honest, we would absolutely watch.
And in perhaps the most Irish moment of the entire interview, Carney even joked about getting original Sing Street stars Ferdia Walsh-Peelo and Jack Reynor to perform at the interviewer’s future wedding.
If that wedding package existed, half the country would probably book it tomorrow.
Power Ballad is out in Irish cinemas from May 29th.
