Despite medical professionals and experts having urged people to eat their five a day for what feels like hundreds of years, people online are now raving about a 'carnivore' diet consisting of just meat, eggs and dairy.
In a world that is increasingly obsessed with protein (no I don't want your gym powder in my pancakes), people on social media are advocating for the strange diet, which often involves influencers eating expensive steak and eggs with their bare hands off cutting boards, because apparently they don't use plates.
The prospect of eating nothing but meat, eggs and dairy is a crazy concept as it is, let alone for a vegetarian of five-and-a-half years, who decided to make the switch six months ago after watching an episode of Joe Rogan's podcast, and now she isn't looking back.
Popular TikTok star Alex Murphy (@almurph18) has shared with her near one million followers the benefits she's noticed after swapping spinach for steak and eggplant for, well, eggs.

In a recent video on her account, she suggests that she's noticed positive changes in her health, brain power and even her relationship after making the change.

She said: "We're eating the best we've ever eaten, and feeling the best we've ever felt.
"After the first week of carnivore, we felt really bad in the beginning, because you're detoxing all the processed stuff you have in your body. By the time we got to day seven, we started to feel this buzz, like we had tons of energy."
Alex then goes on to talk about some of the health benefits that her husband has seen since starting the diet, which has allegedly helped to clear his IBS, asthma and his snoring.

She adds: "He bounces out of bed in the morning and he feels fantastic. He's also lost about a stone."
Alex, who was once a competitive skater, has been able to return to the sport, while she's also cleared her brain fog and chronic fatigue, which she's suffered from for over 13 years after suffering a stroke at the age of just 24.
Just like your steaks, it might be worth taking these claims with a large pinch of salt.
Despite the ridiculous cost of eggs in the US, the content creator also reckons they're saving money on the carnivore diet, as they're no longer buying junk.
As wonderful as Alex might feel after switching to the carnivore diet, experts have warned about the worrying long-term effects of eating nothing but meat and dairy.

"Instead of completely restricting yourself to a carnivore diet or a vegan diet, I would recommend concentrating on diversity and variety," Reema Pillai, private nutritionist at Dietitian Fit, told LADbible.
"There are numerous health benefits linked to the regular consumption of fibre including regular bowel health, reduced risk of type 2 diabetes, improved cardiovascular health and reduced risk of some types of cancers." she said.
"Therefore, removing fibre from the diet is dangerous and will increase the risk of a multitude of health conditions, including heart and liver disease."
The nutritionist went on to explain that complications from following restrictive diets may take years to show up, which could explain why promoters of the diet haven't reported experiencing any adverse health impacts.
"Many of those who follow a carnivore diet are oblivious to health issues for a long time," she said.
