A dad has told how he 'almost spit out his coffee' after receiving the bill for a family breakfast at Disneyland - but didn't, as it was too dear to waste even a drop.

John Tolkien, known online as @jrockandrollt, has left people stunned after sharing a snap of his receipt on X showing how much it cost his brood for a morning meal.

He explained he has been enjoying a trip to a Disneyland Resort in the US with his family of five and decided to partake in the 'Princess Breakfast' experience to wow his little ones.

However, the dad didn't realise it would cost a small fortune to put a smile on his kids faces - hence why he was so taken aback by when the bill landed in his lap.

Sharing a snap of the receipt to social media, John wrote: "'Princess Breakfast' at Disneyland with my kids. Almost spit out my coffee."

While the bill came to $937.65 (£698), he'd also tipped $150 (£111), meaning the three-course breakfast experience cost him $1,087.65 (£809). Ouch.

People could not believe the price which he had paid out for the food and drink for three adults and two youngsters, but John did admit he didn't 'book it' nor 'look at the menu' before he went.

So, he was blissfully unaware of how deep his pockets needed to be to afford a Princess Breakfast at the popular theme park.

One person joked: "I hope you got to eat real princesses for that price point."

Another wrote: "Thank goodness you didn’t spit out your coffee, that’s a $100 cup."

A third added: "This is why my daughter continues to believe Disney is closed for COVID."

And a fourth chimed in saying: "That’s ridiculous. So torn about going to Disney, could literally go to Italy for a month for the same amount."

Still, John says that you get what you pay for - as the 'service was attentive and enthusiastic' while the princesses were 'all trained pro actresses' who 'spent a lot of time with the kids'.

He admitted he still would have coughed up the $937.65 even if he had realised the price beforehand, as his kids enjoyed it so much.

In a series of follow-up posts, he also shared further insight into the financial costs of heading to Disneyland as a family.

"I think if someone went to Disneyland and insisted on doing all the things, they could easily spend $3,000 per day," John wrote in one.

In another, he joked: "Tbh the breakfast was good. Still - nine hundred f***ing American dollars? I’ll just take a gas station burrito & sugar-free Red Bull and hang onto the remaining… $930."

According to Disneyland's website, prices start at $142 for for adults and children ages three to nine who want to attend the 'unforgettable' Princess Breakfast experience which includes a starter, main and dessert.

Sharing his final assessment of the mammoth bill, John added: "Kids enjoyed it, so I think it was worth it.

"The kids definitely learned some new words when I opened the bill though."

The price of being a good parent, eh?
