Global fast food giant McDonald's has launched its first ever meal deal, which you can bag for £5.

The quick-serve restaurant, which is one of the most recognisable brands in the world with its iconic Golden Arches, is taking on the likes of Boots, Asda, Co-op, and Sainsbury's with the launch of its meal deal offering.

You can take advantage of it from Wednesday (9 October), and just like its competitors, it'll come with a few products that'll cost you less than getting the items individually.

McDonald's customers can choose from either a Cheeseburger or Mayo Chicken, which will come with a medium fries and a medium soft drink.

On top of that, customers who opt for a Maccies meal deal will also get four Chicken McNuggets. With the total for those items coming to £7.46, it's a real term saving of almost £2.50 per meal.

McDonald's says: "Tired of a ham sandwich, ready salted crisps and a water? Meal Deals just got a whole lot tastier as McDonald’s UK announces the launch of its first ever £5 Meal Deal across all participating restaurants from Wednesday 9th October.

"That’s a saving of almost £2.50 compared to buying the items individually.

"Customers seeking a delicious meal without breaking the bank will be able to capitalise on this fantastic deal and get one of the selected burgers, medium fries, a medium soft drink and a bonus side of four golden Chicken McNuggets for just £5.

"No matter if you’re a beef lover or a chicken connoisseur, you’ll be able to choose either a Cheeseburger or Mayo Chicken as your burger option. With four Chicken McNuggets not available to buy separately on the regular menu, this offer is more than just value for money – it’s truly unique."

Customers will be able to buy the McDonald's meal deal from 11am and it is not available for delivery orders.

The meal deal is available in participating restaurants and could be subject to availability depending on demand.

It's the latest good news announcement if you are partial to a Maccies, with the company confirming last week that the McRib is making a comeback.

We've been without the item on UK menus for almost a decade - it was originally discontinued in 1985 - with it brought back for a limited run in 2015.

The McRib will be on the menu for £4.49 on its own or £6.19 for a medium extra value meal.

The Head of Menu at McDonald's UK, Thomas O'Neill, said: “It is more than just a sandwich, it’s a phenomenon. We have heard our fans loud and clear – the fan petitions and pleas on social - and after almost a decade of anticipation, we are thrilled to bring back this iconic menu item.

“Knowing how well-loved the McRib is, we had very little choice - we had to make it happen. It was time to step up and satisfy the cravings of McRib enthusiasts across the country."
