A doctor who regularly warns the internet about little-known health risks, has come out to reveal whether cannabis is ‘safe’ for your heart.

Mother Nature, the one responsible for growing weed, has long been thanked for creating things that help our bodies to thrive.

We’ve got herbs, fruit, vegetables, spices, minerals and more, all working together to give us what we need so we can live longer.

However, just because it grows in the ground, doesn’t make it a holistic helper.

According to Dr Jeremy London, a heart surgeon from the US who answers questions handed to him by his son, from social media users...has issued a stark warning about the green stuff.

Having previously dubbed fizzy drinks as a ‘scourge’ on society and ‘liquid death’, he has some pretty big thoughts on cannabis and its impact on your ticker.

When asked if ‘smoking marijuana regularly’, is ‘bad for your heart’, he got candid about the facts and misinformation.

He started by saying: “Well, let’s all agree on one thing – that the lungs have one, simple function, and that’s to bring air in and out of your lungs.”

He said that anything else would be ‘potentially harmful’ to introduce to the lungs.

But when it comes to weed, he said he’s operated on ‘multiple’ people, whose lungs are black from regularly smoking the stuff.

“I hear all the time, marijuana must be safe because it’s natural,” he said. “But here’s the truth: smoking marijuana regularly increases your risk of coronary disease, and acute heart attacks by 1.3 to 2 times than those who don’t smoke marijuana regularly.”

Like smoking – which also turns lungs black – you can damage your capillary blood vessels, draw tar into your lungs, or introduce toxins and carcinogens which are cancer-causing.

According to Harvard Health, the risk of heart attacks is the most prevalent an hour after smoking weed, due to it causing the heart to beat faster and blood pressure to rise.

Now, if you already have heart disease, this is just one more risk on the notch of potentially suffering a medical emergency.

He added that this is the same risk as having high cholesterol, or high blood pressure.

When operating on the table, he said the weed smokers tell him that they ‘thought it was safe’ but have such bad blockages that they require a triple bypass due to the habit.

He said their lungs look like they have been ‘working in a coal mine’ due to the colour.

So, no, smoking weed isn’t great for your heart health.
