Sydney Sweeney and Zendaya’s relationship behind-the-scenes of Euphoria has been a hot topic of debate for years now, even after Sweeney herself spoke out to deny a rift between them.
Zendaya’s mum, Claire Stoermer, has poured fuel on the fire of these rumours however after making posts which hit out at Sweeney.
The Euphoria star has courted controversy once again with a new betting advert in which she goes fully nude save for a couple of footballs, something which numerous members of the sports world have hit out at.
British sprinter Amy Hunt was among a raft of female sports stars who hit out at Sweeney for the advert, saying in a post-race interview at the Ultimate Championship in Budapest: “Sydney Sweeney, this is what women in sport look like.”

Sweeney responded by sharing several pictures on her story of high-profile sports people who have themselves posed nude, but Stoermer has joined in with the growing criticism of the Anyone But You star.
Stoermer shares a video saying her not wearing clothes in the advert is the ‘least concerning part’

Zendaya’s mum shared two posts on her story, both of which do not criticise Sweeney for getting her kit off in the advert but are critical of her.
The first is a post from a mother on Instagram saying she is raising a daughter in the ‘Sydney Sweeney age’. This post from influencer the Camping Mom says that she doesn’t care about Sweeney getting naked as it’s her choice.
She does state however that she is struggling to raise her daughters in a world that tells them simultaneously that ‘your body doesn’t define your worth’ but also that ‘your body is the fastest way to get attention’. The take is a nuanced and long one, with Stoermer posting: “I love this take!!”
The second post is a video from women’s sports influencer Jackie Johnston and says Sweeney getting naked for the advert is the ‘least concerning’ part of it.

The video points to the fact that Sweeney is promoting NOVIG, a sports-only prediction market similar to Kalshi or Polymarket. Johnston points to the possibility for prediction markets to become workarounds in states where sport betting is illegal, along with the possibility for it to lead to corruption. It is critical of Sweeney, not for getting naked in the advert, but for promoting a platform which has itself had serious criticism online.
Stoermer similarly posted the video with a caption saying it was ‘so so interesting’ with an eyebrow raised.
Zendaya hasn’t spoken out about rumours of a rift with Sweeney, but her controversial Euphoria co-star shut them down
The story originated in late 2025 with a Daily Mail report that claimed the pair wouldn’t even ‘stand in the same room’ as one another over political and personal differences.
Zendaya has never addressed these rumours, and it has not been substantiated by other sources, but Sweeney herself spoke out in an interview with Vanity Fair.
She addressed rumours that their rift had caused: “Well, I mean, we all grew up together on this show, so it’s honestly crazy to watch how much social media and the press spin things.”

Sweeney explained that Euphoria was her ‘first position’, meaning that it took contractual precedent over any other roles, explaining: “The moment they say, ‘Hey, this is the first day of filming,’ I’m legally not allowed to do anything else.
“So my schedule doesn’t affect the show. And so that was funny to watch everybody spin narratives on it. All of us were in first position, so it wasn't like any of our schedules were holding it up.”
