A couple who take part in the 'hotwife' lifestyle have explained the concept of 'reclamation sex' and why it's crucial to maintaining their relationship.

For anyone who's missed the memo, to be a 'hotwife' is to take part in a trend which involves sleeping with other men while married – all with your husband's full knowledge and consent.

The lifestyle, which falls under the wider umbrella of consensual non-monogamy, will involve a heterosexual couple, with the female partner encouraged to engage in hook-ups outside of her marriage.

Unlike swinging or threesomes, the husband isn't typically present at the raunchy rendezvous but will be aware it's taking place and will receive a full debrief afterwards.

The trend isn't completely one-sided either, with 'hothusbanding' also growing in popularity over the years.

Given the fact that the overwhelming majority of the population are in monogamous relationships, the idea of hearing about your partner's explicit engagements sounds pretty nightmarish – so what is the appeal of hotwifing?

According to the couples who take part in the lifestyle, there are numerous benefits, including a sense of pride in 'sharing' their partner with another person.

In-fact, numerous couples have even gone as far as claiming the spicy past-time has saved their relationship.

Another bonus for the couples is the idea of 'reclamation sex' which takes place after the extramarital date is completed.

What is 'reclamation sex' in 'hotwifing'?

Reclamation sex is pretty self-explanatory and occurs after the hotwife returns home to her husband and fills him in on all the details about her liaison. The couple will then engage in sexual intercourse as an act of the husband 'reclaiming' his partner.

One couple, named Maddie and Kyle (@innocenthotwife), who take part in the lifestyle explained the importance of 'reclamation sex' in a 2023 interview with Channel 4's docuseries Love Against The Odds.

"Usually, if there's been sex involved we will have what's called reclaim sex," Maddie explained, adding: "And that's the best bit.

"It's intense, he's taking me back."

The reclaiming process is actually so important to the couple that it's even left Maddie's dates feeling a little put-out after learning this is Maddie's favourite part of the experience.

"I know she's had a couple of occasions where guys after seeing her will ask what her favourite part was, and they've not been too happy to when she's said it was actually 'going home to my husband'," Kyle said.

"Just because Maddie says 'he gave me butterflies' doesn't mean she prefers him over me."

Maddie and Kyle aren't the only hotwifing couple to take pleasure out of this interaction either, with content creator Holly 'hotwife' Jones previously explaining that 'coming home' leads to Holly and her husband having the most 'passionate and wild sex' afterwards.

"It really turns him on," she added.
