A relationship expert has lifted the lid on the terrifying reality of 'relationship deadness,' and he has said it is the 'one thing all cheaters have in common'.

It sounds pretty horrifying, but the reality is, most of us will have experienced some form of relationship deadness at one time or another in our love lives.

"Relationship deadness is a very real thing," relationship expert Jacob Lucas told LADbible. "Many people tap out of a relationship long before they end it. Relationship deadness is one of the main reasons for this."

If you're wondering how to tell if you're experiencing relationship deadness, Jacob, who has amassed nearly 800k followers on social media by sharing real-life dating advice, it could be any of one of the following signs.

"They feel like their needs aren’t met in the relationship. They feel bored. A lack of intimacy. No emotional or physical connection anymore in their relationship. No compatibility etc," he explained.

But while many of these things signal the relationship should probably come to an end, the very definition of relationship deadness comes from the fact that the couple stays together, despite their being no 'life' left in their partnership anymore.

"One of the main reasons why they choose to stay is because many people have a fear of being alone," Jacob said.

"They would rather be in a bad relationship than be alone. And the longer they stay in those types of relationships the harder it is to leave because it has become the norm for them to be unsatisfied in their love life. It’s a terrible shame to see it happen."

While that sounds bad enough, it turns out that relationship deadness is one of the leading causes of cheating, as people desperately seek out the feelings that are missing in their own relationship.

"Many people cheat when relationship deadness occurs," Jacob explained. "So instead of choosing to leave they seek excitement, connection, intimacy elsewhere outside of their relationship."

Obviously this isn't healthy for anyone involved and can often lead to things becoming a lot worse than if the person had just ended the relationship in the first place.

What does Jacob advise?

Well, he told us: "They should simply just end the relationship if they feel that way and not cheat, because it’s very unfair on their partner and can cause serious emotional damage in the long run."
