A dating expert has revealed the five red flags you should never ignore in your relationship.

While red flags and boundaries are a largely personal thing, there are some signs no one entering a relationship should ignore.

And TikTok relationship expert Anita, who posts under the handle @magnetizeyourman reckons there’s five key ones to look out for in blokes.

In a clip shared on the platform, she explains that coming across as too nice, could actually be a red flag. Yep, while it’s nice to be nice, the expert believes that being too nice can be a ‘trap’.

She explained: “Here is Mr Nice Guy and you feel so safe and you feel so taken care of but beware because if he is too nice, it’s going to backfire.”

According to Anita, if someone is giving you all their love, attention and compliments all the time, it can lead to some resentment from them if they don't get back what they're hoping for in return.

She also believes it can foster a codependent relationship, which is a ‘dynamic you don’t want long term as it will crash and burn’.

The second red flag from Anita is ‘emotional pendulum swings’.

While all of us are entitled to have a change in mood - she points out that when these become ‘extreme emotional swings’ that could be a sign to leave.

She explains that if your partner flips from a ‘rage monster’ to ‘sweet as pie’, you can, understandably, feel unsafe and begin to walk on eggshells and stop living your life how you’d like and no wants that.

The third red flag you shouldn’t ignore in a man, according to Anita, is not honouring your boundaries.

“This is particularly true when you are dating a narcissist,” she said. “Because narcissists are naturally invasive.”

Anita says that if someone routinely ignores your boundaries, it should be seen as a pretty major sign the person isn’t right for you.

Anita’s next red flag is ‘stonewalling’ - another term for refusing to communicate within your relationship.

Naturally, when you’re in a relationship, you want to be able to talk openly about your feelings and not being able to do this could show that your coupling is doomed.

She explains: “Nothing is worse than expressing your emotions and he just doesn’t say anything.”

Overtime, Anita says this can leave you feeling that your voice and needs don’t matter, which is exactly why you should get yourself out of that situation.

Finally, Anita’s fifth red flag to look out for in blokes is sarcasm.

Now, I know what you’re thinking, and while there’s nothing wrong with a bit of humorous sarcasm in your relationship, Anita says it’s a red flag if your partner is quick to make condescending comments or roll their eyes.

She reckons sarcasm can be a sign of being emotionally unavailable, opting to make fun of their feelings and emotions rather than talk about them head on. I’m sensing some Chandler Bing vibes here.

Anita explained: “If you date a man who is sarcastic, that could be a problem later on, because he may not be emotionally available to you.”
