People point out 'major risk' as woman performs death defying stunt on cruise ship

It might be best not to try this at home.

Now, hurling yourself off a diving platform at a tiny-looking pool below sounds terrifying enough on land, right.

But on a cruise ship? Buffeted by the waves on a moving vessel (it can get really choppy out there)? It's a no from me, thanks.

You probably associate cruises with relaxing activities, chilling by the pool, and indulging in all-you-can-eat buffets while floating around at sea.

Which, to be honest, sounds like a whale of a time - pun intended.

But there is a lot that people don't know about cruises until you actually go on one, because there's so much more that they can offer.

In this case, one woman has performed a daring stunt in front of many at the ship's swimming pool.

Instagram user @adventures_with_ginni, known also as Ginni van Katwijk, is one of those previously mentioned adrenaline junkies.

She is a professional cliff diver for Red Bull's team, and is also a professional high diver for cruise ship company Royal Caribbean.

Ginni currently travels the world on the ship, performing as part of a high diving team that showcases their skills to passengers onboard.

But that still doesn't take away from what she posted on social media about a week ago.

She looked very high up from the pool.

Ginni stood at the tip of the highest diving platform onboard, showing followers just how high up she was.

She also prefaces the video by explaining where the deck and centre lift were, with the clip showing just how small the crescent-shaped pool was as her target.

Target? Surely she won't jump from there on a moving ship?

Well, let's not forget that this is a professional adrenaline junkie here.

This is probably the equivalent of jumping off a one metre diving board for me and you.

She simply says it's 'just like normal' and it's 'easy peasy', before taking the leap, beautifully twisting and turning in the air, before sticking a perfect entry into the water with minimal splash, a 10/10 in my books.

Some of her teammates were filming from different angles, showing the sheer height and skill required to execute a dive like that, as they cheered her dive.

However, all of us aren't fearless enough to try something like this, on a moving ship no less, and a number of people have pointed out just how dangerous this looks.

It looked to many like a leap of faith.

People have taken to X, formerly Twitter, after watching the video to voice their opinions.

One user posted: "What some of these entertainers do on the cruise ships are wild… imagine this… at the night, while the ship is on the move… the sickest show. I hope they are paid well and taken care of tremendously."

Another commented: "One rock to the left or right and this could’ve been…"

A third said: "All the places to play w your life you choose a cruise ship.."

A different user pointed out: "Like does the boat moving take account for her trajectory or no?"

It's good that we're leaving this to the professionals, then.
