There's one word that is 'banned' onboard cruise ships according to man that accidentally said it

Marc Sebastian explained he was met with a painfully awkward silence and looks of disgust after his slip of the tongue

Although you might want to leave your inhibitions on the shore when you board a cruise, it seems you still need to be wary about what comes out of your mouth.

A lot of holidaymakers enjoy getting to know other passengers while they are sailing the seven seas, but according to this bloke, you shouldn't get too comfortable while you are chatting away to randomers.

Otherwise, you might make the same mistake as him and utter one of the words which are supposedly 'banned' on cruise ships across the world.

Don't worry though - you won't be thrown overboard if you do have a slip of the tongue and say the term.

But still, you could end up like poor Marc Sebastian who managed to put his foot right in it when he began discussing the so-called forbidden word at a packed dinner table.

The model and content creator, 34, bagged himself a spot on Royal Caribbean's Ultimate World Cruise in January of this year for the South America-Antarctica leg of the nine-month voyage.

He gave his 1.8 million TikTok followers daily updates about what was going down on the Serenade of the Seas, as well as giving people a glimpse of the 'ocean view state room' he called home for 18 nights.

A host of other passengers onboard the vessel - that visited more than 60 countries across seven continents - were there for the entirety of the lengthy cruise, which might explain why they were a lot more clued up than Marc when it came to what lingo is appropriate on a ship.

As his nearly three week long trip came to an end, the social media star shared a video reflecting on the 'departing knowledge' he had acquired which he would take with him when he got back on dry land.

Detailing some of his new-found wisdom, Marc explained he had learned that cruise ships have 'godmothers' to bring good luck and protection, and that Whoopi Goldberg was the one nominated for the Serenade of the Seas.

As well as this, the US TikToker was left stunned when he realised that the swimming pools on the decks were filled up with water from the ocean.

"I don't know how I thought they were filling them, but what I didn't think they were doing was filling it with sea water," Marc said.

These tidbits of information in his video were obviously very fascinating, however, the most important thing to pay attention to is the word that needs eradicating from your vocabulary before you cruise.

Marc explained: "You're not supposed to talk about the Titanic... who knew that? I didn't.

"I brought up to an entire room of people having lunch that our ship is only 100 feet longer than the Titanic.

"Utensils dropped, waiters gasped... dead silent."

He said it wasn't until his friend leant across the table and mouthed his grave mistake to him that the penny dropped.

Marc then hilariously added that the nine-month cruise didn't come 'with a f***ing handbook' which detailed prohibited phrases or taboo conversation topics for him to take note of.

A host of social media users were left in stitches after watching the clip, while others couldn't believe Marc had managed to put his foot in it so drastically.

One said: "I'm sorry if I'm going on a boat, I'm talking about Titanic and OceanGate."

Another wrote: "It is considered extremely bad luck to mention a sunken vessel while on another one out at sea."

While a third added: "When I went on a cruise, my mom told me that saying 'Titanic' was equivalent to screaming 'bomb' at an airport."

And a fourth chimed in: "The way I would be talking about the Titanic all of the time."

They do say loose lips sink ships - so maybe keep the Titanic talk for when you are standing on solid ground.
