The long wait between December and January paydays is finally over, so why not celebrate with a cheap trip abroad?

Ryanair has launched a payday sale to mark the end of the excruciating wait, which can be as long as six weeks for some people with the Christmas pay check brought forward.

But it's here. And we move.

To mark the big January date, Ryanair has launched its discount sale if you fancy yourself a quick trip abroad before the end of spring.

You'll get yourself up to 20 percent off flights by booking today (29 January). It counts towards all trips from 1 February to 30 April.

The discount isn't the first Ryanair has offered this month, with £15 flights to one of Europe's hidden gems home to £2 pints up for grabs.

For £20 you could also get to the 'Maldives of Europe' which genuinely looks like heaven on earth.

In the most recent sale, Ryanair is offering you flights for under £15 to get to one European city that goes under the radar.

Described as 'straight out of a storybook' by tourism experts, the place in question is the gorgeous Spanish city of Santander.

Immediately you might be asking 'what, like the bank?' to which you'd be on the money, given the massive financial institution was founded in the quaint city.

Santander is on Spain's northern coastline, roughly a two hour flight from the UK.

Not too far from the French border, it's home to a bay that is regarded as one of the prettiest in the world.

It seemingly has it all when it comes to the kind of holidays people like; there's gorgeous green mountain landscapes, white sandy beaches, stunning architecture and that underlying essence of a port city, with open water never too far away.

When it comes to the beaches, Sardinero Beach is the one to head for. It's gorgeous sky blue waters will have you thinking you're on the other side of Spain in the Mediterranean.

The beach itself is lined with hotels and restaurants meaning you're guaranteed for a true beach holiday vibe if you head that way.

There are other beaches too, just look up El Camello, Matalenas, La Concha and Los Peligros.

Speaking of architecture, the stunning Magdalena Palace is regarded as the one to visit.

It allows you to observe and photograph a panoramic view of 'the bride of the sea', as the city is affectionately known, framed by the beach and mountains.

If you don't fancy flying you can even get to Santander from the UK by boat, with a ferry service still very actively sailing back and forth.

A quick check on hotel prices shows you can get a week-long stay for under £400 if you book at the right time, which is a pretty good day rate when broken down.

You can fly to Santander under Ryanair's sale from Manchester and Birmingham. Safe travels.
