Flight attendant reveals mile high club secrets after woman ‘stopped and sent back to her seat’

A quickie in the loo at 30,000 feet isn't worth your freedom

Most of us have some pretty raunchy stories to tell at parties about our sex lives. The thrill of doing it some place you shouldn't, or even the danger of getting caught is why so many people recently proudly tell their stories about how they joined the mile high club.

While getting your freak on at 30,000 feet might seem like an exciting idea, it is, just like any other act of public indecency, very illegal.

Mandy Smith, a former member of cabin crew for Virgin Atlantic opens up about her experiences with passengers trying to join the mile high club. Thankfully, while getting it on in a grubby toilet has somehow been romanticised, Mandy admits it doesn't happen that often, claiming it only happens on 'one in 20, or 30 flights'.

When asked about passengers attempting to join the mile high club, Mandy lets us into a little secret.

If airline staff are aware of customers enjoying their toilets a little too much, they're able to completely take the doors off, so it doesn't matter if you've locked them, you're not safe from exposure from flight attendants who've had enough of randy passengers.

However, Mandy does admit that if it's a night flight, and there's no kids around, she would often leave people to it.

She even recalled a time her friend had told her about a young lady who was seemingly very desperate to join the mile high club.

She said: "Now, one of my friends had a situation where there was a young lady of 18, who was quite determined to join the mile high club, and she just grabbed anyone."

In this particular case, Mandy recalls her friend telling her that she had to return the young woman to her seat.

Half an hour later she came back with a different man, and Mandy's friends had to ask her parents to make her stop.

'It was almost always on red eyes'

Mandy isn't the only flight attendant that has reported these kind of encounters on flights either. Over on the r/AskReddit sub on Reddit, one user recalled seeing two gentlemen getting a little too familiar with each other under the airline supplied blankets. Honestly lads, there's a time and a place for that.

Other airline staff chipped in on Reddit telling their stories of witnessing passengers naughty adventures in the air. One pattern emerged among stories online, and that is that red-eye flights seem to be the most popular choice for those looking to join the mile high club.

One of the extreme stories reads: "The couple didn't know each other at the start of the flight, and despite being on opposite ends of business class, somehow found a way to be in the same seat mid-flight. They decided to go at it sans-blanket, at which point we had to ask them to separate for the rest of the flight."

Another recalled being on a plane with a couple who had 'mile high clubbed' a couple of times during a flight, and that flight attendants 'had everyone on the plane give them a round of applause for being the most consistent passengers she had ever seen'.

What happens if you're caught trying to join the mile high club?

If you're considering trying to join the mile high club, you might be wondering what would happen if you get caught.

While there's no specific laws in place about getting it on inflight, it can have different consequences depending on where you try and do it.

Criminal attorney Norm Pattis told Travel + Leisure that if you're caught in the bathroom with someone, airlines are within their rights to issue a lifetime ban and 'most courts would enforce' it.

However, he says the real danger is if you try it in your seats, which could be considered a felony offence in the US.

One air hostess has admitted cabin crew 'won’t be afraid to call the authorities if they see you trying to get too cosy with your partner' on a plane.

In the UK, section 71 of the Sexual Offences Act 2004 makes it illegal to have sex in a toilet the public has access too, and can result in an £1,000 fine or six months in jail.

You might still be tempted to try and earn those bragging rights and break plane etiquette, but is it really worth it?
