Everything that can change when you take Omega-3 and Vitamin D supplements together

Taking supplements is a popular way to try and improve your general wellbeing or performance in certain areas.

Many swear by the likes of creatine to boost their workout sessions while others take various vitamins for health benefits.

And while you should always be careful with what your consuming, there’s a popular combination that is thought to have a highly positive impact on your general health.

Both Vitamin D and omega-3 fish oil supplements are considered to be great supplements and having them as a combo may help to excel their benefits further.

Of course, both can be found in food products and supplements shouldn’t be taken in replace of eating. Omega-3 fatty acids can help to keep your heart healthy while vitamin D helps to keep bones, teeth and muscles healthy.

The impact of taking both supplements

Medically reviewed, verywell health say that the combination of Vitamin D and omega-3 ‘can improve your immune system’s health’.

While vitamin D helps to regulate the amount of calcium and phosphate in the body, omega-3 helps the heart and can reduce inflammation.

It’s thought that combining them could slow biological aging. Early findings suggest that the benefits of both may work together to help ‘preserve the body’s function at cellular level’.

As vitamin D helps bone health, by maintaining proper bone mineral density, it’s suggested that omega-3 fatty acids could enhance these effects by reducing the inflammation that can negatively impact bone remodelling.

It’s thought they may work better together as a combination in promoting long-term bone health than either alone.

Another benefit of combining them is that they may complement each other in aiding the immune system. It may vary from person to person, but again, research suggests it could enhance their individual effects to combine.

Vitamin D is thought to be key in regulating immune systems while omega-3 fatty acids contribute by reducing inflammation and supporting the function of immune cells.

With both supplements known for their anti-inflammatory effects, taking the nutrients together is thought to be able to work to target the underlying inflammation responsible for pain. This therefore could be a more holistic approach for those with chronic discomfort.

It’s also thought that combining the two can reduce disease risk – with omega-3 supporting healthy cholesterol levels and vitamin D being crucial in supporting our immunity.

As we say, using them together can enhance their protective effects, ‘potentially lowering the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes and autoimmune conditions’.

Who should avoid?

While taking vitamin D and omega-3 supplements together are generally safe for most people, there are some groups who may need to be wary.

This is laid out as:

· Those on blood-thinning medications

· Those with elevated calcium levels

· Those with chronic kidney disease

· Those with fish allergies should avoid omega-3 fish oil
