After plenty and plenty of talk about weight-loss jabs, chat has opened up further towards weight-loss pills.
That’s as the WeGovy pill is now available to purchase privately in the UK, as a bit of an alternative to injections.
And like many of those who opt for this form of medication, Heather McCall started taking the tablets back in February as the idea of injections scared her.
The woman from Virginia, US, weighed 16 stone nine pounds when she started the WeGovy pill. And so far, she’s lost three stone.

A police officer, she says her ‘life revolved around food’ and her weight was impacting her work.
But the pills offered up assistance in losing weight, as well as saving money on both groceries and the injection alternative.

“Whilst I was eating breakfast, I would be thinking about what I was having for lunch,” Heather explains.
“My weight was affecting my work as a police officer; I would try to chase somebody and not be able to take more than a few steps.
“I haven’t had bread since February, and I can’t remember the last time I had cake or pie or anything like that. You just don’t want those things. It’s changed my life dramatically.”
Before the WeGovy pill, Heather had tried all kinds of ways to losing weight from fasting to exercising to having a nutritionist.
However, suffering with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) she really struggled. This condition causes insulin resistance, which means your body stores more fat, and increases hunger and carb and sugar cravings.
She was feeling constantly lethargic and was tempted to try the weight loss medication when she saw it could be done in tablet form.
“The injection scared me, because it’s a week’s worth of medicine at once," Heather explains.

So, in February 2026, after a chat with her doctor, she purchased a month’s supply of 1.5mg tablets for $150 (£113).
This is a much cheaper option for her as the WeGovy injections would have cost her $1,349 (£1024) per month, without insurance.
Within three days, she noticed her ‘food noises’ had quietened down.
“I wasn’t thinking or craving food all of the time; it was a very unfamiliar feeling for me," Heather says.
“People say it’s expensive, but it’s 100% worth it, and you spend way less by not eating as much, and not snacking, so it does actually save you money.”
The police officer is thought to also be saving more than £300 a month on groceries, no longer craving sweet foods, eating protein ‘like nobody’s business’ and having smaller portion sizes.
Heather now has more energy, feels more ‘in tune’ with her body and struggles less with sleep apnoea and IBS.
She aims to get to 10 stone by the end of the year.
