Jelly Roll’s weight-loss transformation needs to be studied as the Grammy winner went from being over 39 stone (550 pounds) to appearing on the cover of Men’s Health in just three years.
The country singer/rapper, who recently filed for divorce from his wife of nine years, became concerned about his long-term health after battling 'food addiction' throughout his life.
As his music career grew, he realised that he needed to make a serious change and wanted to be healthier, have more energy for touring and spend more quality time with his family.
In 2022, the then 38-year-old began his weight-loss journey and instead of looking for a quick fix, he decided to focus on three areas.

“So we start with the basics, and it sounds simple, but: eating well, moving, sleeping, managing your stress. All of that is curative, but it’s really the foundation of health,” he explained to Men’s Health earlier this year.
2023: Developing healthy habits

"If you're really battling obesity, you got to start at the dinner table, man. The walking's great, all the other stuff's great, but you got to fight that addiction at the dinner table," he told Fox News.
Jelly Roll also mentioned to PEOPLE that he’s ‘never had a healthy relationship with food’, saying that cutting out the crappy diet was the ‘hardest part’.
As well as moving towards a healthier lifestyle, he used a GLP-1 weight-loss medication under a doctor's supervision.
GLP-1 medications, such as Ozempic and Wegovy, work by reducing appetite and helping people feel full for longer periods. He explained that the medication was only one tool in a much larger lifestyle transformation.

Danese Rexroad, the nurse practitioner who treated him at Ways2Well explained that she put him on metformin, a pharmaceutical used primarily to treat type 2 diabetes.
“Insulin is designed to help glucose enter the cell,” Rexroad said. “When you have an excessive amount of insulin, it forces your body to store fat. So switching those receptors and switching what Jelly’s body was signaling with insulin helped him rapidly adjust his insulin resistance. I wasn’t doing a big science experiment. It was just meal timing and eating real foods.”
2024: Major progress

A year on, fans began noticing a big difference in Jelly Roll’s appearance, having lost more than 100 pounds.
His workouts included activities like basketball and boxing, which helped him keep workouts enjoyable.
Jelly Roll also said that he felt better during concerts because he had more energy on stage and found it easier to handle the demands of touring.
2025: Reaching 200 pounds lost
Jelly Roll achieved a major milestone in 2025, revealing that he had lost nearly 200 pounds, dropping from about 540 pounds to around 357 pounds.
2026: More than 275 pounds lost

Jelly Roll, now 41, shared at the start of the year that he had lost approximately 275 pounds.
“A lot of dudes get to their bottom dollar, and we’re like, ‘I’m changing! Tomorrow in the morning when I wake up, I’m a different person!’ We attack it all at once. ‘I’m gonna run! I’m gonna lift! I’m gonna eat right. I’m gonna do this and this and this.’ Listen, man, because I’ve done this before: Just pick one of those. And you know which one you need to pick? Food. Start there. F**k everything else. Just commit yourself to ‘I’m gonna count every calorie and macro that goes in my mouth’, ” he told Men’s Health
