Look, plenty of us have woken up the morning after a night out and been too scared to even open our banking app.
Knowing you were a little tappy happy in the bar can bring on a different level of the fear over finding out how much you ended up spending.
So, imagine the level of hangxiety you’d experience to discover you’re $50 billion (£37 billion) in debt.
That’s what happened to Maddie McGivern when she checked her banking app after getting home from the bar. Yep, it’s one way to sober up I guess.

Her mate Gabe Floress took the opportunity to film the dilemma back in 2021, going viral on TikTok and continuing to do the rounds on social media to this day.

Their pals in the background can be heard admitting they though McGivern was ‘exaggerating’ as the caption reads: “We went to the bar and Maddie checked her phone when we got home and she’s -$50 billion dollars in debt.”
“What do I do?” she asked desperately, but also seeming to see the humour in the crazy situation.
Fortunately, she did appear have a bank balance of just over $76 available, though when faced with a $50 billion bill that's basically the atom of a drop in the ocean.
So it’s a fair question to be asking should you ever find yourself back from a night out only to discover you owe the GDP of a small nation.
Luckily, when McGivern called up her bank to ask about the absurdly massive debt hole she was in, they were as confused as she was.
Somehow her account also said she was due a payment of $50 billion by 2099, though understandably the woman wasn't sure she'd be alive that long to collect the money.
An employee of the bank asked 'can I put you on hold' while they dealt with the matter and it turned out to have been a massive mistake – thankfully.
The bank said in a statement that there had been a 'technical glitch over the weekend' which resulted in some weird figures appearing on a few people's banking apps, and they said they'd since sorted things out properly.
All's well that ends well, even if for a short while the poor woman thought she was in more debt than she could imagine.
And it instilled a fair bit of fear in social media users as one wrote: “I could have a heart attack from this error. this not funnyyy.”
“The panic was valid,” another agreed as the fear continued: “That would give anyone a stroke however healthy they are.”
While one joked: “Ma’am you’ve just been awarded all of our student debt.”
