Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson is perhaps one of the world's most popular people.

From his days as Rocky Maivia, a wrestling persona that simply didn't work, to his days as the WWE's hottest heel in The Nation of Domination, to becoming The People's Champ, and eventually a global movie star, he's had one hell of a career.

He's instantly recognisable now for his bald head, beard, huge body and tattoos. But it wasn't always that way. He once graced crowds with his fairly typical 90s mutton chops, a full head of hair and a singular inking on his right arm.

The Brahma Bull tat is synonymous with Johnson's wrestling career, becoming a logo for him and even prompting one of his nicknames. But now it's gone and has been covered up with a new bull, which rather poetically represents the development of the actor over the years.

It took 22 hours and three sessions to finish, but now there's a bull's skull on his arm full of "relentless energy," shown by the horns pointing forward rather than up or to the sides.

He wrote on Instagram: "Evolution of the bull.

"After 3 sessions and 22hrs of tattooing with world renowned @NikkoHurtado, the story's almost done.. Every detail is a reflection of my own personal history. From the cracks and heavy damage in the bone representing life's hard lessons I've learned over the years. Just like scars and wrinkles - I'm so grateful to have 'em because they're earned.

"To the horns, not pointing up or out to the side, but pointing straight ahead representing relentless energy and forward progress.

"The core and anchor of this image is in the eye. Look closely and you'll find the life, energy, power and you'll feel the MANA (spirit). The eye tells the story of a disruptive positive energy always ready to dent the universe.

"Depending on the light and angle, sometimes the energy's subtle and sometimes it's glaring. But it's always alive and ready to disrupt the universe and love and protect my family and all things I love with intense passion and gratitude.

"Cheers to living, learning, evolving and growing. And to the positive disrupters ready to dent the universe."

He spoke about the evolution and the spirit of MANA in an Instagram video...

It looks great, to be fair.

But it's the weekend now, and we should really heed his words and #NowLetsBreakOutTheTequila.
