People are flooding to social media in shock over a job role which can see you make £100,000 for changing a lightbulb.

If you'd been thinking about quitting your job recently and fancied a change of career, why not take on the task of changing a lightbulb and get paid a whopping £100,000?

Alas, like everything that sounds too good to be true, the job indeed comes with a catch. I've changed a few lightbulbs in my time, but none quite like this.

The TikTok video - shared by Science8888 - claims you can get $130,000 (£100,000) for changing a lightbulb in the role of a Tower Lantern Changer, but despite the hefty salary, there is a constant 'shortage of people' who choose the career.

The clip continues: "Actually, this is not a regular light bulb. Not everyone can do it either. This is a special job for high-altitude operations, replacing lightbulbs for signal towers over 600 metres high.

"This type of signal tower is different from ordinary tall towers. In terms of appearance it is built from a metal bracket - the higher the height, the thinner the bracket - and there are no protective measures, [climbers] relying solely on a rope to protect them."

Look away if you don't do heights.

So what does it take to become a tower lantern changer?

Well, the first requirement is fairly obvious. You can't be afraid of heights, so if you're the sort of person who offers to hold the coats and bags while your mates go on theme park rides, this job's definitely not for you.

You also need to be physically fit because according to the TikTok video it takes around three hours to climb from the ground to the top of the 600m tower, a round-trip subsequently taking a whopping six hours.

"The highest wind speed at the top of the tower is nearly 100 kilometres. If you don't grab it firmly, you'll just fall off," the video explains.

It's certainly not a job for the faint-hearted.

While the video claims you can earn £100,000 as a tower lantern changer, the salary does range according to other sites.

According to Field Engineer: "Entry-level tower climbers with less than a year of experience often average $17 (£13) per hour on their role with under one year of experience.

"For those with more experience than that, they can expect to earn around $19 (£15) per hour."

Several job posts for a Tower Lantern Changer are listed on Jooble, with one post offering £16-35 ($20-44) an hour or £240-a-day ($301) and another up to £32 ($40) an hour.

While the rates vary, there's no denying it's still an impressive amount, but would you do it if you had to climb over 600 metres up in the air, spending around six hours off the ground?

Some people are confident they could take on the role.

People have flooded to the video in awe of the job role and in debate over whether they'd ever be able to do it themselves.

One TikTok user said: "Bro for 130k I'm climbing the Everest to change bulb."

"Imagine at the top you forgot the light bulb," another wrote.

A third commented: "$130,000? Where do I sign up?"

And a final resolved: "I'll take it!"
