Proving once again that dogs are just too good and too pure for this world, a pooch in India has adopted an orphaned baby monkey and carries the little primate around on her back.

The tiny monkey was under attack from a pack of dogs when one-eyed Ruby spotted what was going on and came to his rescue.

Now the pair are inseparable, with the monkey regularly spotted on Ruby's back - she even feeds the little fella with her own milk.

Ruby's owner Suresh Prabhy said she is 'very protective' of the monkey.

Suresh explained: "The baby monkey was roaming along in the area when a pack of dogs surrounded him.

"Before they could rip him apart, my dog Ruby intervened and saved his life.

"It has been more than one and a half months since the pair became the centre of attention in the entire village.

"The bitch, who does not have any pups, considers the monkey as her own child and is very protective of him."

The odd pair have become local celebrities in Seoni Malwa, Hoshangabad district, with locals feeding the animals and some even deliberately setting out in hopes of seeing them together.

This isn't the first time an adorable dog has stepped up and taken on parental duties for a completely different species.

Last year, Fred the Labrador 'adopted' nine ducklings after their mum disappeared.

Owner Jeremy Goldsmith told the BBC: "We brought the ducklings into the house as they are too young to fend for themselves, and Fred just took them under his paw - rather than his wing.

"He's got a lovely nature and has grown up around rescued animals."

Speaking to the Hertfordshire Mercury he added: "[The ducklings] climb all over him, getting up on his head and his back. When he goes swimming, like Labradors like to, all the ducks follow him in and have fun too."

The dog adopted a whole flock of ducklings.

When the ducklings were still tiny, Fred, who lives at Mountfichet Castle in Essex, was regularly seen wandering about the place with the baby birds crawling all over him.

Well, I think we can all agree this is the cutest thing we're going to see all day, isn't it?
