After being lumbered with a $70 pay-per-view porn bill, a man has said his dog is to blame - claiming the pooch somehow managed to get hold of the remote and made the purchase.

Thomas Barnes, 58, was issued a bill for $70 by broadcast service DIRECTV, despite having immediately contacted the company to explain what had happened.

He had been at home when his bichon frise, named Marino, jumped up on to the bed and stepped on the remote with its paws, in turn accidentally ordering the Hustler channel by pay-per-view.

Barnes, from North Carolina, told the News & Observer that he called the satellite TV company within minutes of the mistaken purchase to explain what had happened, and was told everything would be fine - the error would be resolved.

But he was shocked when he found he'd been charged $70 for his dog's actions, and that Hustler stayed activated.

Barnes - who lives on Social Security disability - phoned again and was given the same promises, but merely continued to face the same issue.

Eventually, Barnes decided to subtract the $70 from his bill and pay the rest, only to have his service cut off entirely.

He said: "That 70 dollars, you're taking food out of my mouth.

"It's like you're stealing it. They refused to see how that was pertinent."

Rather than getting annoyed at little Marino, Barnes filed a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission, explaining what had happened.

He then got a call saying DIRECTV would agree to add the credit to his next bill.

However, Barnes still isn't happy.

He added: "There's a problem when there's a mistake and you expect me to pay for the mistake."

DIRECTV is yet to comment about the incident, but LADbible has contacted the company for a statement.

And if you find it hard to believe that Marino has the dexterity or intelligence to work a remote control, it's worth remembering that many dogs are capable of more than we'd like to realise.

What about the canine who recently faked a broken leg in order to get people to feed him? Or the naughty French bulldogs who somehow managed to raid a kitchen cupboard and cover themselves in bright green food colouring?

This police dog also went viral after it was filmed successfully walking two tightropes while blindfolded, which is almost certainly something that few humans could do.

Basically, it might be an idea to keep those TV remotes away from your four-legged friends... and perhaps get some locks on those kitchen cupboards. They're up to something.
