York makes it into world's top 10 Christmas Markets alongside London’s Winter Wonderland

Halloween has come and gone, so many of us will be looking forward to the festive season.

And what better way to get into the festive spirit by visiting a Christmas market in the run up to the big day.

With Christmas markets starting to open up, thousands will flock to their local to enjoy the traditional stores, mulled wine and sweet treats.

But if you are looking to travel further afield, you may want to take a look at new research done by Planet Cruise.

In their handy guide, they revealed the best Christmas markets to visit in 2022.

Funnily enough, two of the top 5 are actually in the UK, with London's Winter Wonderland in second and York's Christmas market in fifth.

York's St Nicholas Fair will be celebrating its 30th anniversary this year when it opens from 17 November.

For its anniversary year, event organisers are hyping up the new traditional Swiss chalet known as The Winter Hütte.

The Visit York information page reads: "The Winter Hütte offers a ‘Swiss with a Twist’ dining experience from one of Yorkshire’s best-known chefs, the Michelin-starred Andrew Pern. For passers-by, there is a fully-licensed bar area serving seasonal favourites such as gluhwein and spiced cider."

According to the new research, Winter Wonderland is the second best Christmas market to visit in the world this year.

This year's market will have a whopping 200 stalls and visitors will be able to try out the UK's largest outdoor ice rink.

The Hyde Park Christmas celebration will run from 18 November to 2 January and will be open daily from 10am till 10pm.

As for the other Christmas markets that made the top 10, Bryant Park Winter Village in New York took the top spot.
