Three main cancer symptoms to look out for first thing in the morning

Three main cancer symptoms to look out for first thing in the morning

There are 'persistent' cancer warning signs in the morning

Whenever the word 'cancer' is mentioned, you automatically think the worst.

With there being 393,000 new cases of cancer every year, one in two people are expected to develop a form of it in their lifetime.

But if you're lucky enough to catch it early, then there's always a chance you can come through it.

Although cancer symptoms can be difficult to spot at the beginning, Abbas Kanani, a pharmacist at Chemist Click, has warned that there are three 'persistent' signs you should look out for in the morning.

1) Sore throat

Kanani says that if you've got a persistent sore throat that's not getting better after two weeks, then you need to get it checked.

The same applies for a cough.

"Smokers often wake up with a cough in the morning," he told the Express. "However, a persistent cough for longer than two weeks should be checked out. Especially if you smoke."

2) Fatigue

We all feel tired, especially first thing in the morning, but Kanani insists that tiredness could be a sign of something more sinister for some people.

Kanani explained: "It’s normal to feel a little tired in the morning, but if this is not usual for you, or you are noticing fatigue lasting throughout the day, you should get this checked out."

Fatigue, paired with other unusual signs is something to look out for, he said.

3) Bed wetting

"If you wake up in the morning and the bed is wet or damp from sweat, this indicates that you could have been experiencing night sweats," he said.

"Get this checked out with your GP, especially if night sweats are accompanied by fatigue, weight loss or bruising."

Drinking and smoking can cause cancer

Although one in two people are expected to develop cancer in their lifetime, Cancer Research UK insists that smoking is the 'biggest preventable cause of cancer in the UK, and worldwide'.

"Not smoking is the biggest thing you can do to reduce your risk of cancer," the charity explains.

"Chemicals in cigarette smoke get in to our blood stream and can cause damage around the body. If you smoke, the best thing you can do for your health is quit."

The same goes for alcohol, which they say 'causes seven types of cancer, including breast, mouth and bowel cancer'.

"Whatever your drinking habits, cutting down will reduce your risk."
