A woman who was diagnosed with terminal cancer and went on to sleep with as many men as possible revealed why her condition changed her mind.
Molly Kochan sadly passed away in March 2019 at the age of 45, but not before she changed her outlook on life, taking it upon herself to go on a sexual liberation journey.
The Los Angeles resident was told that she had breast cancer for the first time in 2011 and that it had gone to her lymph nodes.
Despite going through a number of treatments, including chemotherapy and radiation treatment, by 2015, Molly was told the cancer was terminal.
It had spread to her bones, brain and liver, and while many may want to tick items off their bucket list, or travel, she went another way.
Molly was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2015 (Instagram/@nikkiboyer) With this new perspective, Molly slept with around 200 men as she recalled wanting to 'hump everyone and everything that I saw. I was horny all of the time' as a result of hormone treatment.
In an effort to 'seek joy', she put an end to her loveless 15-year marriage and started dating in the 21st century.
But in a 2016 blog post, the American went over things in life that 'used to weigh' on her, such as caring what other people thought of her, as well as taking things personally.
However, she mentioned one huge factor that changed which led to her dramatic change: "Getting (romantically) crazy about people before I know them."
Admitting that it would happen 'super fast' not just with men, but with friends too, she added: "I would obsess about when they were going to call, if they were going to call. These days I get less attached to people out of the gate.
"Somewhere along the line I decided I don’t need to get attached unless you give me a good reason to do so. And that reason takes time to show itself."
Molly went on, saying that as she had been dating at the time, she would be 'unphased' if a man didn't call her back, which she linked back to the idea of not taking things personally.
"If someone doesn’t know me, how can their lack of interest be personal? And if on some level it is personal, good to know sooner rather than later." she said.
Prior to her passing, Molly had recorded a six-part podcast called Dying for Sex, and wrote a memoir titled Screw Cancer: Becoming Whole.
Molly shot the former with her best friend Nikki Boyer, who came up with the idea, documenting her adventures as a newly single woman, using the podcast as a platform to speak about them in addition to her illness.
She even admitted that she slept with over 183 men on the podcast, as she stopped keeping count after hitting the milestone.
Molly wished that everyone had her new perspective on life (Dying For Sex Podcast) Following its release in February 2020, it brought in millions of downloads, and earlier this year, a TV miniseries about her story was released.
Oscar-nominee Michelle Williams plays Molly in the FX series, Dying For Sex.
The podcast delved into heavier topics such as her childhood trauma and history of being abused, in what Molly called a good way to 'trump the distraction'.
She even reconnected with her parents following her diagnosis.
Speaking about her new life experiences prior to her death, Molly stated: “Sex makes me feel alive, and it’s a great distraction from being sick,”
“I don’t think I would do any of this stuff without the cancer. Even though I’d maybe want to, I’d be a little more cautious about everything.”
