A French streamer died on camera earlier this week after claims he was ‘tortured’ for ten days.
Raphaël Graven, better known online as Jeanpormanove, was found dead on Monday morning (18 August) at a home in Contes, a village north of Nice.
Local reports say he was found after ‘ten days of torture, sleep deprivation and ingestion of toxic products’ as viewers watched him take his ‘last breath’ live on a stream.
An investigation has been opened with there said to be ‘nothing suspicious’ surrounding Jeanpormanove’s death at this stage.

But in the days before, it’s reported he had messaged his mum that he felt like he was ‘being held hostage’ for the controversial live stream on Kick (a Twitch-like platform).
Who was Kick streamer Jeanpormanove?

The 46-year-old began his most current streaming account on Kick in May 2023 and had racked up over a million followers across his various social media platforms.
With a large community on the live-streaming platform, he had been partaking in a since-deleted 10-day marathon stream.

This kind of thing wasn’t uncommon for Jeanpormanove who worked with partners on gaming content and extreme challenges. Some of their content has been described as ‘humiliation streams’ with Graven at the butt of it.
A French minister said he endured ‘absolute horror’ as it’s reported he was suffering ‘extreme violence’ with previous streams allegedly showing him slapped, spat on and grabbed by the throat, with objects thrown at him.
Founded as a competitor to Twitch, Kick is known for having looser moderation and creators can get a higher share of revenue with the group Graven was a part of taking thousands of donations during the stream.

Who are Naruto and Safine and how have they responded to Jeanpormanove’s death?
The streamer typically worked with co-creators Owen Cenazandotti ('Naruto') and Safine Hamadi ('Safine').

Naruto announced the death on Instagram as he paid tribute to his ‘brother, sidekick, partner’ and asked followers to ‘respect’ Jeanpormanove and to not reshare clips from the stream showing him dead or unconscious.
Safine wrote that he ‘can’t believe it’ as he said Graven had been ‘a part of my life for six years’.
“We’ve laughed together for six years, we’ve given each other blow after blow… Six years of memories,” he wrote, adding: “I’ll miss you. I love you. Rest in peace, my brother.”
Naruto's lawyer Yassin Sadouni said to Le Monde regarding Jeanpormanove's death: "We are awaiting the results of the investigation aimed at determining all the conditions of 'JP's' death and identifying the responsibilities of each person."
He added to AFP: "My client bears no responsibility for this death."

Saifne and Naruto had been taken into police custody in January on suspicion of disseminating footage showing violence against vulnerable people.
They were soon released as a Nice prosecutor said: "Both the people likely to be implicated and those who were victims denied the commission of offences."

'Absolute horror'
The prosecutor’s office confirmed it had opened an investigation into Jeanpormanove’s cause of death and ordered an autopsy.

They told La Parisien: "At this stage, there is nothing suspicious, interviews are underway, and an autopsy will be performed."
France’s minister for digital affairs and artificial intelligence, Clara Chappaz, described the streamer’s death and the alleged violence he went through as an ‘absolute horror’.
She labelled the ordeal as ‘humiliation’ and ‘mistreatment’ and France's High Commissioner for Children, Sarah El Haïry, described the death as ‘horrifying’.
"Platforms have an immense responsibility in regulating online content so that our children are not exposed to violent content. I call on parents to be extremely vigilant," she wrote on X.
Chappaz added that she had referred the issue to French media regulator and Pharos, the French system used for reporting online content.
A Kick spokesperson told LADbible: "We are deeply saddened by the loss of Jean Pormanove and extend our condolences to his family, friends and community.
"We are urgently reviewing the circumstances and engaging with relevant stakeholders to investigate the situation. Kick’s community guidelines are designed to protect creators, and we remain committed to upholding these standards across our platform."
Drake and Adin Ross speak out
Following the news of his death, American streamer Adin Ross announced that he and Drake will cover the costs of Jeanpormanove’s funeral.
He called it ‘horrible and disgusting’ as he called for ‘severe consequences’ for those involved.
“I just spoke with Drake,” he wrote on X. “Drake and I will be covering the funeral costs, this won’t bring his life back, it’s the least we can do. Prayers go out to Jean’s family.”
LADbible has contacted Kick, Naruto and Safine for comment.
