In a move that a lot of people were expecting, but everyone was dreading, GTA 6 has officially been delayed for a second time.
The hotly anticipated title, which had been pushed back to a May 2026 release date, has now been pushed a further six months and won't hit the shelves until November next year, publisher Rockstar Games has confirmed.
"Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on Thursday, November 19, 2026," the game's creators said in a statement yesterday, 6 November.
"We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realise has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.

"We want to thank you again for your patience and support. While the wait is a little longer, we are incredibly excited for players to experience the sprawling state of Leonida and a return to modern day Vice City."

The news is understandably a fresh blow for fans who have been eagerly waiting for the game, which was formally revealed all the way back in December 2023. By the time the game is released, it will be just one month short of three years, though developers have been working on the title since long before it was announced.
Despite the bitter disappointment, GTA 6 still seems set to be worth the wait. Here's everything we know about the title so far.
GTA 6 platforms
Rockstar's parent company Take-Two previously confirmed that GTA 6 will be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in a statement, however with the PS5 Pro having been released since then, it's unclear if the title will be available as a PS5 Pro enhanced game.
At this stage, it appears unlikely GTA 6 will be available to play on PC, however, it could come at a later date as with previous titles and the game will not be coming to PS4 or Xbox One when it launches.
GTA 6 trailers

Towards the end of 2023, Rockstar was forced to release the first trailer for GTA 6 a little early following a leak. In the trailer, which landed on 4 December, 2023, fans got their first glimpse into the return to Vice City and a first look at the two main characters in the title, criminal couple Lucia and Jason Duval, though the names weren't known until the second trailer was dropped earlier this year.
In the second instalment, released on 6 May 2025, fans were given another look at the state of Leonida where the game takes place. We found out that Lucia and Jason have come to Vice City after Jason's release from jail, before they both inevitably find themselves back in a life of crime.
GTA 6 price point
There has been a lot of chatter around how much the new title will cost, given the amount of money, time and effort that has gone into creating the most eagerly anticipated video game in history.
Both Rockstar and Take-Two have remained tight-lipped on pricing, however, market analysts have suggested an estimate of $100, which is a slight step up from the market average of $80 for a new title.
Project ROME
Although nothing has been officially confirmed as of yet, Project ROME, which stands for Rockstar Online Modding Engine looks set to 'allow creators to modify the game’s environment and assets to bring their own intellectual property — and potentially their brand sponsors — in to GTA’s virtual sandbox'.
Theories first started swirling in 2023 when Rockstar bought Cfx.re, the development team behind FiveM and RedM, the multiplayer modding platforms for GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2.
This acquisition officially opened the doors to modded gaming as part of the wider community of players and earlier this year, fans discovered it was more of a real possibility than ever before.
Taking to X in August, gaming insider @trevortrailor shared a screenshot of a job advert in which Rockstar was calling for a Senior Product Manager for its creator platform.
He wrote: "GTA 6 multiplayer role-play mode confirmed!!! Rockstar Games is looking for a senior manager to oversee the evolution of FiveM and RedM."
