Amazon is removing a 'hugely distasteful' coronavirus Halloween mask after it was uploaded by a seller in China.

The online marketplace has responded to complaints about the creepy product, which depicts the the Covid-19 virus, with a sinister set of eyes and a mouth cut into it.

The controversial costume was said to be 'suitable for adults and teenagers'.

However, it quickly received a barrage of criticism, with one online parenting group reportedly branding it 'hugely distasteful'.

The mask had been listed by a number of different sellers, with the YTFU Corona Latex Horror Mask boasting a 'terrible Corona design' and being flogged for £14.59 ($18.70) with free delivery from Guangdong, China.

The mask was criticised for being insensitive.

Another mask, which was being sold by yangqingwen1456, based in the Chinese city of Zhenjiang, was on the market for £28.99 ($37.22).

The advert for the WWJJTT Halloween coronavirus mask said the product was made from 'natural nontoxic material, environmentally friendly, nontoxic and beautifully painted'.

The advert read: "This mask can attract people's attention when wearing at the party. You can choose this mask, more ladies than before."

While a third outfit, called the Coronavirus Horror Latex Head Mask, was listed in the description as having a 'natural and realistic appearance, which is horrifying and creepy, and many children are afraid to come close'.

The ad went on: "This will add more happy and active atmosphere to you.

The mask has been removed from the marketplace.

"The latex virus full face mask is spacious enough to put on/off. There is no obstacle to vision and breathing, and it is highly breathable."

Amazon confirmed to LADbible that the listings were being removed.

A spokesperson for the company said: "All sellers must follow our selling guidelines and those who do not will be subject to action including potential removal of their account. We are removing this product."

The only kinds of coronavirus masks we should really be concerning ourselves with right now are the ones that help prevent the spread of the deadly virus.

Earlier this year, a microbiologist has shared a set of photos which demonstrate just how important it is to wear a face mask when it comes to stopping the spread of coronavirus.

On his Twitter account, Dr Richard Davis posted photos of an experiment he conducted to show precisely what the effects of wearing a face mask are and how well they prevent the spread of germs.
